He advises governments and organisations around the world and received the prestigious Stockholm Water Prize in 2008 for his pioneering contributions to understanding and communicating water issues. He is Professor of Geography at King's College, University of London and is Emeritus Professor at the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London

کتاب درباره‌ی آب پنهان یا همان آب مجازی‌است و سعی در آگاه سازی عمومی درباره‌ی آب دارد اینکه بدانیم بستن شیر آب و کاهش مصرف آب خانگی درست است که باعث صرفه‌جویی می‌شود ولی حجم آب مصرفی اصلی درجای دیگری مصرف میشود: مصارف زراعی و دامی (در حدود ۶۰ درصد و بالاتر) یعنی درواقع علاوه بر تغییر سبک زندگی و مصرف مواد غذایی و دامی، انسان‌ها از طریق بازار و تجارت و درنتیجه از طریق سیاست و قانون در حال مصرف بیش از حد آب به صورت پنهان هستند.
کتاب سعی دارد با مثال‌های جالب و با زبان عمومی این مسائل را توضیح دهد البته نویسنده بعضی‌ جاها مطالب را بیش از حد تکرار کرده و کش داده‌است. با این وجود برای هرشخص متعهدی نیاز است که آگاهی نسبت به آب و آینده‌ی آن داشته باشد مخصوصا در کشوری مانند ایران که بحران آب در آن به خاطر حماقت‌های حکومتی و نادانی مدیران اجرایی گریبان همه‌ی مردم را گرفته‌است.

Pop writing, so really easy to read. Overdramatic, in some sections, but generally a really interesting read.

Even though I found the topic itself highly interesting, this book took a lot to finish it.
The author clearly likes to hear himself speak. I bet a third of the book could have been omitted, without losing one bit of information. That is how much got repeated over and over and over again. It got, to use a phrase the author used more often than I can remember, boring at best, annoying at worst.
The core-information of this book is interesting and important, but I would still look for another one.

كلنا يعرف عن حروب الماء المتوقعة والتي لم تحدث ولا يبدو على قول الكاتب أنها ستحدث. ولايعني هذا أنه لاتوجد مشكلة حقيقية بخصوص الماء. ولكن فكرة الماء الافتراضي Virtual Water
أو المخفي هي السبب وراء عدم حدوث الحروب، وهي الحل لمشاكل الماء! وهي فكرة بسيطة فلو لم يكن لديك الماء الكافي لزراعة الأرز مثلاً يمكنك إنتاج شيء آخر كالتمر مثلاً لا يحتاج نفس كمية الماء ثم تبيع التمر ثم تشتري بثمنه ما تحتاج من الأرز وكأن لديك الماء الكافي. وبهذا فلكل سلعة تكلفة مالية وتكلفة مائية، فاحرص على انتاج السلع ذات التكلفة المائية المتدنية
عرض الكاتب المتخصص فكرته والتي لاقت قبولاً عالمياً مؤخراً وكيف يمكن توظيفها لخدمة العالم مائياً. وقد حاول وبجد شديد أن يتقرّب للقارئ العادي باستخدام لغة فيها الكثير من التشبيهات والطرافة لدرجة أنني اصبحت أضيع أحياناً ولا أعرف ماذا يقصد. وعندي لو حافظ على رصانة الموضوع وعرض المعلومات والأرقام بوضوح وبشكل مباشر لكان أيسر في التلقي
هذا الكتاب الثالث الذي أقرأه في مواضيع الاقتصاد، ولكني للأسف أجد معاناة في قراءته. لعل الاقتصاديين يرون علمهم جافاً فيسعون لتلطيفه ولكن بشكل مبالغ فيه
ولكنه كتاب مفيد وأفكاره فعلاً قوية ...
