4.5 stars! One of the most endearing books I've ever come across. Simply adorable. Granted it's a little far fetched given the times we live in but it is still a feel-good book worthy of many sighs. It's fiction for a reason, just saying.
(1 of 2 novellas in "A Real Prince" by Debbie Macomber)
Holy shit this was bad! Where to begin with it's problems?!?!
I was on a business trip and since I'd read the two paperbacks I brought with me, I went to CVS and purchased two mass media paperbacks, including this compilation. WHY ARE COMPILATIONS SO BAD?!? Fool me once… “All For You,” fool me twice “A Real Prince”… This was a schizophrenic mix of historic and contemporary romance, the former completely eclipsing any hope of enjoyability of the latter.
First, let’s do the plot then assess the failures.
Hope Jordan owns a coffee shop in Seattle. (Note, anytime I read a contemporary romance set in Seattle, by default I assume it’s an AU Twilight Fan Fic.) A Romance Novel Convention is coming to town featuring a raffle with a contemporary prince of some European micronation, Hope’s mother purchases raffle tickets in hopes her daughter will win. And she does…
Prince Stefano has entered the auction to meet Priscilla Rutherford, the heiress of a Seattle-based shipping company (she’s a sponsor the Romance Novel Convention.) But upon flying to Seattle with his best friend and secretary - Pietro - and meeting both Priscilla and Hope, Stefano instantly falls in love with Hope and Pietro with Priscilla. However, each hides their love-at-first-sight from each other, resulting in strife and misunderstanding between the two. Finally, they each discern what’s going on, and Stefano urges Pietro to pursue Priscilla, so Pietro proposes marriage and he and Priscilla HEA, returning home to San Lorenzo from their honeymoon with Hope in tow as a surprise for Stefano, resulting in Stefano and Hope's HEA. Oh - and the Kingdom get an HEA too because the US State Dept calls and wants to build an airport, offering the required funds...
Failures:
This book is set in modern day. Financial challenges FOR AN ENTIRE NATION cannot be fixed by marriage BECAUSE AMERICAN WOMEN DONT COME WITH DOWRIES. Jesus christ. Would royalty actually be willing to auction off a date? To benefit a local library halfway around the world?!? And even if the answer to the above was yes, would a royal actually attend the auction? And seriously? This is set in Seattle, and McCormick’s was the perfect place for dinner with a Prince?!? And really? Everyone in this damn story just INSTANTLY falls in love? And it’s mutual? Super contrived feeling. Inauthentic.
Upsides:
At least I was sitting in First Class. And had limitless red wine...

This was an incredible read. I loved the story. Stefano is a prince, who goes to America to find his future wife, and meets and falls in love with Hope Jordan. The characters were loving and sweet. They have great chemistry and I thought their relationship was authentic. The story had two love stories: the main romance was Prince Stefano and Hope Jordan, and the second romance was between Stefano's secretary and a wealthy heiress. She was chosen to be the wife for Stefano. The ending chapters were sweet. I hope that there will be more books like this one. I am a big fan of Debbie Macomber. Overall, an amazing read.
This book was fun and sweet for what it is. This book is about Stefano and Hope. Stefano is the prince of a small country that is having some financial difficulties. For that reason he's needing to get married. He's slated to marry an heiress from another country but there's not much for chemistry. They also decide to do a fundraising contest at a romance convention in Seattle where the winner gets a date with the prince. Hope's mom enters her and wins and the rest is history. Of course, they're not supposed to be together because he's supposed to marry the heiress so theres some miscommunication about all that. This was definitely an insta love story, bu entertaining nonetheless.
I have read several books by author Debbie Macomber, she never fails to tell a good story.
While the plot/storyline is cliched in this book, I still found myself wanting to find out what happened with Stefano and Hope. I liked the ending, even if it was cliched :)
I liked this book because I couldn't second guess it. I from oregon and Washington but live in Missouri so I enjoy reading books about my home states. I appreciate reading a book that is not xrated. kudos to Debbie.
I didn’t realize this had been written in 1994. 😆 It kinda reads like it. I went in with low expectations given the star rating and fact that it was basically a novella, hoping mainly for something pleasant to pass the time while I waited for a hold to come in since I like the trope, and those expectations were met. It’s too short for there to be a great deal of plot or character development, all the developments kinda speed along faster than is realistic and it probably would have been better written from a single POV to allow more page time for depth of character. It had a lot in common with Hallmark/Netflix holiday romance flicks, actually, could totally see it working as one. In any case, it kept me entertained for a couple of days, and that was the goal.
Had a hard time liking this book. Just the story was a rushed mess as are many stories such as this. It failed to get me invested. It failed at romance. Thankfully it's a quick read. I can now move on to something worth my time.
I loved this book! It had all the things I love, silly moments, corny moments, sweet romantic moments, love, kissing, and happy endings! It’s a truly charming romance!

This is the first book I read from this author. I actually listened to this one so I'm not sure if my experience would have been different if I had read it versus listening. Anyways, this is a story of a prince who was destined to marry for money. He felt that he had no other options to keep his country going unless he marries an heiress. So he goes to Seattle, USA to meet with an heiress. He also gets sucked into doing a "Win a date with the prince" contest. It seemed that there were a lot of women that were willing to pay to get that chance since this prince was one of the most eligible prince in the world. So he wins a date with Hope which was only in the running because her mom bought her the ticket. So they go on a date and immediate attraction ensues. Meanwhile the heiress falls for the prince's secretary. The whole thing was so predictable. I already knew that at the end of it, the prince will end up with his true love and so does his friend and the heiress. Over all I thought that the characters and the plot were predictable. There were some cute scenes, especially with the prince wearing costumes to be "in disguised" but the costumer were so outrageous he stood out more. I am not so sure that I would read another one from this author. I was not very sold with her story telling.
This has to be one of the silliest, stupidest books I’ve ever read. It was like watching a cheesy hallmark movie, but not in a cute fun way. It was painful to get through, but I still felt the urge to finish it. That’s the only reason it got 2 stars instead of 1.
Priscilla was the only redeemable character, and she was a supporting character. She was the only person that actually had some depth and character growth. However, I had no idea why she loved Pietro other than she thought he was handsome? He just acted like an as*hole the entire book.
Both Hope & Stefano were extremely generic, one dimensional, and had no character growth. It’s completely ridiculous that they fell in love after one date….and we didn’t really get to see the date other than Hope talking about how great it was…but we don’t really know why. They don’t seem to have any sort of emotional connection…they seemed to only have a physical attraction yet they are supposed to be deeply in love? Gimme a break.
Stefano was extremely unlikable, and seemed like an arrogant pr*ck.
The plot was so ridiculous, unrealistic, and under underdeveloped.
*sigh*
I know this was written in the 90’s…..were no substance stories the style of romances back then?
Prince Stefano - prince of a small European question, and the drought has put them out of business - so decides (with the help of his assistant and best friend) to find a rich bride...

Although I really buy Debbie Macomber books for my Mum, I always find myself picking one up whenever I just want something light and easy to read, usually on a Summers' day ..
This book containing two romantic stories, the usual template and ending, but the Author does seem to develop interesting characters and settings that subtly draw you in, and at only 200 pages each, you decide to stay awhile and see how things turn out ..
This is a fun, easy summer read. A bit predictable--a trope about a prince who needs to marry a wealthy woman to save his kingdom, but falls in love with someone who doesn't have the pedigree or money to help him. The book was originally published in 1994, so I'm guessing it might have been fresher/more original then. But still a good read, although I don't think it is one of Macomber's better books.
Pretty ridiculous. Again, I had low expectations for this book but just wanted something quick, easy, and light since I’m caught up with a couple other books. It seems pretty ridiculous that two couples both manage to fall in love upon their first meetings. Despite that, it was a little fun. Very silly.
The prince must find someone to help save his country with their wealth; the best way to do that is by marrying someone made of money. The person picked for him by his right-hand man turns out to fall in love with his right-hand man and has no interest in marrying the prince. It's a great quick read.
Meh. Fluff, short, predictable. I love Debbie's books, but this one just didn't have enough substance. Nor did it take me on an adventure where I couldn't see miles ahead. Will just have to try some of her others.
This book simply captivating! I loved that it made me laugh out loud. I loved that my heart just broke. It was as if I was the character in the book. Best one of Debbie's book I have read. Loved it!
This is the way a romance should be written. Great uplifting characters that you love but that make you want to throw the book across the room because of their actions. Clean language and no sex. Authors need to take lessons from Debbie Macomber on how to write romances!
I’ve heard of people genuinely falling in love in hours, but it is rare and I just didn’t believe it in this book. However, I was able to suspend reality and enjoy it as a fairy tale. I loved the characters and it was fun to listen to.
My favorite author has done it again! I am never disappointed with Debbie's books. Now we have the tale of an actual Prince who meets the love of his life. Though things look impossible, we get our happy ending.
This was a quick, easy read with a nice happily ever after ending. It was well-written, well-paced, and entertaining. This was a clean romance, appropriate for both teens and adults. Worth the time to read.
The Bachelor Prince was just the right dose of romance I needed at the moment. It’s definitely cheesy and predictable, but in the best way. It was still satisfying and enjoyable. Debbie Macomber’s books are always great for feel-good reading moments.
