Broken Heroes and Enduring Hope: The Cleveland Diagnosis of Injured Title Dreams and Indestructible Fans

Rate this book
This collection of stories examines Cleveland's athletic teams and injuries that have hindered their quests for championships. From rotator cuffs to knee ligaments, from sprained ankles to sprained backs, and from broken legs to broken arms, Cleveland's misery has taken some of its best athletes and immobilized them at inopportune times. Written by the director of Sports Medicine at Akron Children's Hospital, Joseph Congeni, and the author of well-received books on LeBron James and Jim Tressel, David Lee Morgan, Broken Bones and Broken Dreams not only recaps the sports events, but explains the injuries in terms that fans can understand.

A light, enjoyable read. If you like books like "Tales from the Tribe Dugout", you'll like this book. It was written by a physician and although it's laid out like a patient's chart with sections labeled "Symptoms", "Patient History", and "Diagnosis", it is not a medical book. Each chapter gives a brief explanation of the subject's injury or illness in laymen's terms. But make no mistake, it is a sports book.

The book covers famous, and not so famous, players from the Browns, Cavs, and Indians. If you're a Cleveland sports fan, you'll recognize every athlete and relive some good, and not so good, times.
