Gosho Aoyama (青山剛昌) is a Japanese manga artist. He is best known as the creator of the manga series Detective Conan (known in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom as Case Closed).
Aoyama made his debut as a manga artist with the work Chotto Matte which was published in the weekly magazine Shōnen Sunday on winter of 1987. Shortly after that, another work by Aoyama, Magic Kaito, was published on the same magazine.
I feel so smart because I solved the cliffhanger. I'm this close to channelling my inner Kelly Kapoor and doing the whole: "You guys, I'm like super smart now". I am. I am super smart for solving the case.
I'm not happy because there aren't many character-driven stories. I still enjoyed it, though.
★★★★☆ - 4.0 I liked this volume a lot. Four cases were discussed in it, whereby the first one was set up in volume 5 and I loved the resolution volume 6 provided. The second case was fun as well. I liked the back and forth. Yet, I still think the other massage on the answering machine was just as suspicious^^ The third case was interesting. There were quite high stakes for the first steps of the Detective Boys. And how is it no one seems to care when these kids are not home at night?! The setup to the fourth case was just fine. Though I don’t like this shift to not resolving cases within the volumes. It worked well for the case split between volume 5 and 6, but I don’t think it was necessary for this case.
this was yet another okay volume with predictable murder mysteries. the first mystery, murder by sword, and the second involving murder by golf club were both mildly entertaining. however, the fourth mystery was different, in that the murderer was revealed from the beginning, which i didn’t like, and then to top it off this filler mystery ended with a cliffhanger. like what’s the point if the murderer has already been revealed 🙄
This starts off with the resolution of that really intense case from last volume, but went in a different direction than expected. Not bad though. The main story of the murder of Tenjiro Maru was interesting but not as exciting as previous whodoneits. Then there was an interesting case with the “Detective Boys (and girl)” and how they got their transceiver pins. The last case goes unsolved in this volume, so I guess this will be a trend going forward.
Reread of 2025: 4 Stars very much agree with what I said below... other than the mediocre thing... like... that case was good girl - you just didn't actually properly read it last time... (side eye at myself) this was very solid. lots of 4 star cases that make this a 4 star volume
Detektiv Conan 6: 4 Stars [6.62 -really great]
This one had several great cases but also a mediocre one in the middle - I also did not time my reading for this one right so I might add an actual review on my next reread - but for now. Good Volume but not one of the faves.
(this includes Sangos first Case btw - LOVED him in it)
First time reading a manga on Kindle for me, haha. I'll talk more about that in the "For Japanese Learners" below. It otherwise doesn't detract from the experience.
This volume as a whole isn't my favorite. The cases don't feel as "wow" to me compared to other volumes. But that doesn't mean they're bad. They're still an adventure, especially for first time readers. I suppose my familiarity can be both a good and a bad thing, since I recall which cases I loved and look forward to reading, and which ones were more underwhelming, which hurts the experience. Taking myself out of that headspace though, and treating these as fresh new cases does make the experience much better.
Case 1: Finishes off the cliffhanger from the previous book. Will Conan make it out alive? Well, there's over 90 sequels and even more spinoffs, so...maybe! xD Definitely a great case, worth getting your hands on this book to read the conclusion.
Case 2: Richard, Ran, and Conan (I'll be mixing up the English and Japanese names a lot, I grew up with both!) are visiting an estate on one of Richard's own cases. (Shocker! xD) While his client excuses himself to meet with a guest, a couple hours later, he's found dead! And in quite the gruesome manner! The victim was scheduled to meet four people that day, including Richard, but which one of them did it?
The artwork in this one really outdoes itself for me. The estate is gorgeous, and the room where the victim was killed, while gruesome, was extremely well done. The mystery was clever, as usual. And with all cases involving Richard, you're gonna get a bit of humor value too, haha.
Case 3: We back with the detective kids. Their boredom leads to them asking their schoolmates for cases. What starts out as a benign search for a missing cat leads to a dead body. But after calling the police, it disappears!
I've mentioned before, but the kids' cases can be hit/miss with me. I'm someone who doesn't like characters interfering or disrupting the MC, so sometimes they can test my patience. (Yes, I know they are children, haha.) But this one wasn't too bad for me. The case itself is interesting, though one of those that, if you think about it, is quite unrealistic. But nothing the ruins the story in the least.
Case 4: A rare case where we actually SEE the culprit in action, no spooky shadow man! A man is killed by his associate in their hotel room. Thinking he had covered his tracks and committed the perfect crime, and with Richard and co as witnesses to his innocence, can Conan prove he's the murderer? -- Ends in a cliffhanger!
I think this one gets on my nerves more so for the character himself, the murderer, rather than the case/writing as a whole. He's very arrogant and comes off as quite annoying. Perhaps more so in the show, which I saw first, than in the manga. The plans he went through to "successfully" pull off the murder was interesting and clever though! AND we get to see a new lead detective, since we're in a new location, and this guy is pretty fun xD
This is where reading in the native language adds extra humor value. The new detective had no idea who Richard was at first, and once he recognized him, the way he spoke changed dramatically. Japanese is big on formalities and politeness, and the switch is MUCH more dramatic in Japanese than could ever compare in English. So it was really funny XD
For Japanese learners: Check one of my previous reviews on book two for more info. This is a series, so things are gonna be consistent.
This was my first time reading a Japanese book on Kindle. I used my second monitor to display it, and I could search up words on my main display if need be. Most of the time, everything was fine, but there were several occasions where I had to slow down and shove my face to the screen to get a good look at some of the more difficult or less legible kanji. Unfortunately I couldn't figure out how to zoom in, and the quality of the scan isn't 100%. (It's still pretty good, don't get me wrong!)
Getting your hands on a physical book, or a newer ebook that likely has higher quality scans, or ones meant for ebook reading, would be much better for a beginner. I passed the N3, though with a low score, haha, this last December, so I have more experience, so reading this as an ebook would likely be less of a struggle for me compared to someone at a lower level. That certainly doesn't mean don't try, if you want to go for it, go for it, just be aware that you might need to slow down more than you expect to.
That said, despite my reading speed being slow as I adjusted to reading via my computer at the start, I did notice I started to pick up the pace as time went on. I'm still around 30-40ish minutes, like the last book, but I'm eager to see where I'll be by volume ten or so. ;) The first book took me a month, so huge progress!
This book contains three cases. The first is a continuation of a story which started in volume 5. Very good. Plus two more cases where the little man shows his deductive skills.
Kebenaran kasus penculikan Conan akhirnya terungkap.
Another series in my quest of sharing manga with my daughter, based on her recommendations. Jimmy Kudo is a high school student helping the police solve their hardest cases. During one of the cases, the bad guys decide to dispose of Jimmy with an experimental poison, which ends up transforming him into a first grader. Taking the name Conan Edogawa, and keeping his real identity a secret, he attaches himself to a washed-up PI in order to find the men in black who tried to kill him, to turn him back into a high schooler.
Volume 6 resolves the cliffhanger from the previous chapter, with a few surprises! Then we're off to two mysteries, a man murdered who had four planned visitors that day, and the Detective Club (Conan and his classmates) have to deal with a missing corpse as they search for a missing cat. And then finally another cliffhanger, as a murderer (whom we see do the crime) has a perfect alibi set up, including Rachel!
This series just keeps getting better with each chapter. Light-hearted mystery fun, paying homage to classic murder mysteries.
This volume of Case Closed concludes the mystery started at the end of the last volume. I will fully admit I could not figure it out and was totally stumped, which to me is a good thing! The next story is about a murder by sword. This was a fun one too, and while I had suspicions...I again was not sure until the end. The next story involved the Junior detectives as they take on a case of a missing cat...that turns into an even bigger case...of as a disappearing murder! The final case of this jam packed volume involves a different type of mystery. We know the murderer from the get-go, but now its a matter of breaking an airtight alibi! I feel bad rating this a 3 star, but I don't know if each volume varies enough to warrant any issue going above it (to this point), but want to quickly assess you will enjoy the adventures.
Yeah the "case" with the masked man is still not a favourite of mine. It's some really bizarre logic being used throughout. I do think the "middle" case with the two brothers is interesting. The way the body was hidden and all the technical tricks to hide the crime. The only thing with that one is that it's very optimistic in terms of time. The killer would have had to clean and dress the body, hide it, clean the bathroom, put on a disguise, set up the tricks to fool the police and ready a second set of clothes. That's a lot to do in a very short time frame. Lastly the case with the two authors, which will be concluded in the next volume. It's interesting mostly because we know who the murderer is from the start, so the mystery is how he did it while still having an alibi.
We get to meeting Shinichi's parents in this volume, and they have such a delightful relationship with Shinichi, it's a joy to watch them interact with each other! All the cases in this volume are really interesting, and bring across some fun social interactions (the police and the Detective Boys, Ran and her dad, etc.). The volume ends on a cliffhanger again, but unlike the previous volume, there's not really enough tension to make the cliffhanger worth it, kind of wish they just finished the case in this volume!
SPOILERS ARE IN MY REVIEW I think that these volumes get better with each one. The tension is there even though I logically know that the case will be resolved. I enjoy all of characters because they are all are unique at this point. Though I question Jimmy’s parents tactics in reaching out to him in that over the top matter in trying to make a point. They didn’t try to reason with him, instead they kidnap him and show him how dangerous it could be by pretending to be villains.

In this volume the junior detective is officially created, although this isn’t the first volume where the junior Detective league worked the case. I’ll start adding a note just in case anyone wants to read volumes that include the junior detective league.
This volume continued the end of a case from the previous volume +2 1/2 new cases.
Three visitors The junior detective league Night of the festival
*chapters 51-60 ❌ men in black ✅ junior detective league
