When ace high school detective Jimmy Kudo is fed a mysterious substance by a pair of nefarious men in black—poof! He is physically transformed into a first grader. Until Jimmy can find a cure for his miniature malady, he takes on the pseudonym Conan Edogawa and continues to solve all the cases that come his way.
In this exciting volume:
A diplomat is found dead in his study and Conan's on the case. But what exactly happened? The elder statesman was definitely murdered, but the door and windows to his private chamber were all locked from the inside. How in the world did the killer escape?
And, as if that wasn't bad enough, Conan and his pals get swept up in a missing person caper at the local library. Murder, kidnapping and drug smuggling aren't exactly the sorts of things condoned by librarians. What's the connection? Conan thinks he knows the answer but he's got more pressing things to worry about—like escaping the deadly grasp of the fiendish miscreant!

not me planning to re-read just the first two volumes this week & already on to the 10th volume cuz I love this series sm!! (you have to suspend your disbelief a lot but I like the different cases we get🙈)
i love how consistent these volumes have been so far! in this volume, we are introduced to jimmy’s rival who in the beginning seems like great competition for jimmy in a classic locked room murder mystery but in the end is easily one-upped by jimmy himself. jimmy coming back for like 10 minutes was so worth it and it made me happy but also annoyed because in my opinion the entire series would have been so much better with jimmy not turning into a kid. the reveal of the murderer was a great surprise because i couldn’t get it right and i loved that. the execution of the murder was a very questionable theory though it was so unbelievable lmao.
i also really liked the second mystery even though i normally don’t like it when the murderer is revealed at the very beginning. the second mystery involved a crazed librarian and it was so fun seeing the kids outwit the librarian in the end.
the third mystery frustrated me as usual because it ended on a cliffhanger so now i have no choice but to start the next volume asap because the mystery and the setting are intriguing. we have a ski trip and the family end up staying overnight in their neighbor’s lodge after being locked out. unfortunately a murder most foul happens as usual and it’s up to jimmy/conan to help rachel’s dad figure out whodunit.
Band 11 wartet schon ;D
This volume features one of my favorite cases and three fairly enjoyable ones, so I knew it was going to meet my expectations. what do you mean I'm biased towards Heiji and Shinichi's return pfft
So maaaybe I was predisposed to the fact that the utter dumbass of Heiji Hattori is introduced here, since it's such a comical entrance and he's a key part to the plot, of course I was hyped. And how hilarious it is that Heiji was so focused on the competition he came up with in a whim while Shinichi was right there not giving a damn about the whole ordeal (Shinichi and his sick sleep-deprived ass was a mood tbh) without the other knowing.
(Hattori your giant bi crush on Kudo is showing.)
Did I mention Shinichi freaking Kudo got his body back temporarily? If the hype wasn't already killer, also the surreality of it being triggered by Hattori, let's not forget the drama™ of it all. I'm so sorry Ran, baby, this moron doesn't deserve you but he's also helpless so give him at least the benefit of the doubt because he's trying.
This right here fucked me up. Real bad. The nostalgia trip is too strong.
Moving to the next case, the Junior Detective League always brings me a few laughs even if I find them frustrating at times -Shinichi Kudo, oblivious dad of three kids to the rescue, lol. Creepy is an understatement for the head librarian... It was a pretty good mystery, and the added resolution with Conan developing immunity to the liquor that brought his body back and then getting drunk cued the expected facepalm, heh.
The other two cases were cut halfway through but I remember them with fondness (yes, that's not the best word choice for a murder, what about it) and I liked reliving the details.
All in all, I'd say it's a pretty solid volume, with some plot development and the right balance of dramedy. It's a 7.5/10 from me.

Another amazing series of deductions AND this is the first book Harley appears in! I can't wipe the grin off my face reading Detective Conan now (even though plenty of people are getting murdered) because there's something so lovable about the premise of Conan that persists throughout the series and these are the classic first few cases that I'm so nostalgic about (is that weird to be nostalgic about intense murder mysteries??)
★★★★☆ - 4.0 Yesss - finally!! I am very split on this volume. It starts with a short resolution for the case that was built up in volume 9, then contains two full cases and the setup for another case that is split between this volume and the next. I liked the resolution this volume started with, though I still didn’t feel all too invested in the characters, the case itself was interesting enough. Then there was the second case. THE CASE! The first appearance of our all favourite detective of the west. And the deserved victory of the east.^^ I loved this case just as much as I remembered and for this case alone I wish the volume had been a five star one. The third case however was not as interesting to me. The detective boys were amazing as ever, but I did not enjoy the setup of the case. This might only be me though, as I tend to enjoy cases with a big cast of suspects rather than the thrill of hiding from a known suspect. So yeah, that case was just fine. The last case was again more interesting to me. Yet, I feel like we did not get to know a lot about the suspects or the victim and I am overall no fan of splitting these cases between volumes. So yeah.. Overall this volume was just fine and objectively might even a three star… but I am not objective in these reviews and the second case was perfection <3
Lots of great stuff in this volume! And the introduction for one of my favorite recurring characters--Harley/Heiji! <3
Case 1: Finishes where we left off with the cliffhanger from the last book. Pretty cold and troubling explanation, the motivation was really sad.
Case 2: We meet a new face as a young and famous Kansai detective comes in search of his (self-made) arch rival Jimmy! Things get lead astray as a client comes in to speak with Richard, which unintentionally leads them to a murder. It's a race to see who can solve the case first--Jimmy or the Kansai detective Heiji?
Okay, fan girl moment, I love Harley/Heiji! Was super psyched to finally reach this case! When I first saw the two part-er of this case in the anime, I was ENTHRALLED! It was so suspenseful, I was literally on the edge of my seat, mouth gapped, couldn't consume it fast enough! And my gosh, the manga is the same xD That full two page spread in file four is GOLD and DELIVERS!
And a quick note on the differences in the English translation:
Case 3: The Detective Kids are at it again, accidentally stumbling upon a missing person's case which turns deadly. Can the gang find the evidence and stay alive against a murderer?
I know this is irrelevant to English readers (I'm reading in Japanese), but having such a light read after binging several chapters was nice on my brain. Having these less text-intensive chapters make for good breaks. In any case, just the usual with this one. As I've said before, the kid's cases aren't my favorites, but this one was still cute and simple...apart from, you know, the dead body and murderer and everything lol
Case 4: It's a winter vacation to the mountains as Conan, Rachel, and Richard head off to the slopes. On their way back to their villa, Richard lost the key, and they end up in the home of a friendly neighbor. The night seems to go well as Conan and the gang meet a fun group of strangers, but the night gets abruptly cut off when one of them is found stabbed to death.
Unrelated, but sitting in my cold apartment, this story was extra cold! xD But it was a great start to another interesting mystery. I can't say anything too particular about this one, as it floats around the average for how things play out. I did especially love seeing them out having some fun at least, and of course the artwork is beautiful, as always!
This one ended in a cliffhanger, so until volume 11 ;)
For Japanese Learners:
Check my previous review on book two for more info. This is a series, so things are gonna be consistent.
The biggest exception with this particular volume is Heiji, as he speaks with Kansai-ben. It might take some getting used to if you're not familiar with it. I wouldn't stress too much to get it right away though, he pops up several times in the series, so there's plenty of content to practice with as you go along. :)
As for me, my timing per chapter is a touch faster, more consistently hovering around the 30 minute mark rather than 30-40. Sloooowly speeding up, haha.
Heiji Hattori datang mencari Shinichi Kudo.
Mengira kejahatannya sempurna, ternyata si guru besar meninggalkan sebuah pesan kematian.

Volume 9 ended in a way that made me immediately want to read this volume to learn the conclusion to the case...and it was worth the wait. The first full case of this installment introduces a new character that I just feel will be around often enough by the way he was presented....Harley Hartwell. I am unsure if I like this character or not, but he will surely serve as a great storytelling device. He is introduced as they are trying to figure out a murder and there are now two different theories on how the crime was committed. The next story is about the Junior detectives and a murder in the school. Early on we pretty much know the murderer but the great aspects of this story is how it was done and how he is exposed. Finally we have a murder at a luxurious lodge during a winter storm on a snowy mountain. This volume ends without a conclusion to that story....so get excited about volume 11!
I read the following volumes online and they were just as good as the others. Although all the art work of the manga was digitalized, the plot was really great and again suspenseful. The addition of a new character, hattori, was a good addition to the plot and also to the little cases included within the volumes. More tension and connections were built and this made it even more interesting to read. However, the murder cases were quite brutal in these volumes so I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone who is sensitive to gore or anything like that. Other than that these volumes were a fun read.
This was such a pleasure. We start this Volume off with a great finale to a great case. Furthermore we meet a certain Detective from the West - reading Heijis first case is always very weird to me because I know it by heart (as in literally by heart) and I get a little bored with the case because of that - but that is on me for watching it 24/7 back in the day. My favourite part of this Volume is actually the Detective Boys case. I adore how dramatic and characteristic it is. + the creepy vibes all over the place. Love it ♥ To end it off is the only thing that kind of drags this volume down and that is the first two chapters of a good case. Good as in decent, fine, nice, i like it - but not 5 Star Material.
In this volume we get: - The resolution of the Wealthy Murder Case. - The Diplomat Murder Case which introduces a favorite Hatori Heiji (the Kid Detective of the West) and Conan / Shinichi’s catchphrase - Conan gets drunk on shouchu. - The Library Murder Case with the Detective Boys and yet more iconic disturbing scenes of minors in peril (Classic Conan). - And then the start of the Medical Professor Murder Case.
So much content in this volume. I’m still on a Conan high and looking forward to volume 11. The beginning of each Case is starting to give me the same thrill as a scene from Final Destination, when every little action of everyone and everything in the room will lead to someone’s murder.
Continuing my journey to volume (as of writing this) 107!!
I’ve been looking forward to this volume. Finally One of my all time favourite characters has entered… Hattori Heji!!! Conan’s relationship with him is gold. They make me laugh every time they are in a scene together.
Then we have the big return of our favourite dumb genius teenager…Shinichi!
The only downside to reading this was the English name…Harley Hartwell smh, I don’t know him🤔😉

The diplomat case is my favorite. I love Hattori Heiji's introduction and how the murder method isn't as complicated as it seems at first glance. I remembered being creeped out by the librarian from the second case when I was younger and the way he's drawn is honestly nightmare fuel. The case itself is nothing special but the solution is pretty neat. Other than that, I also enjoy the atmosphere of the last case.
Relecture.

In our first case, a challenger from the west arrives! I forgot about him, but I remember I used to think he was a butthole. Of I was like eight at the time. Next we have a murder in a library! What sacrilege! A library is a place of knowledge, not for shady dealings. And to close up we start a case of murder at a ski lodge. Talk about cold blooded.
My fav volume of DC so far.. I luv when Heiji Hattori makes a special appearance out of nowhere, "he's my fav character"😍, the cases of this volume r so interesting too.. The great detectives of the east nd the west meet it this volume nd the case of the murder in the library is so breathtaking.. I just wish the situation of the file "tragedy in the blizzard" was in that volume..
Dios LO AMO.

Oooh, a murder in a snowy setting? It's giving old timey Goosebumps. As always, greed turns you into a monster. And what do people do? Hunt monster for sport. I'm with the killer in this one, what can I say.
We also get to meet one of Shinichi's rivals, a cute guy who must speak in kansai-ben. That's already all I need to know, backstory be damned.

I've got to admit I'm not the biggest fan of the other high school detective guy, but the trick of the case was cool. I am a fan of how creepy the library guy was, just the way his face is drawn is so unsettling. The last case I'm kind not sure about.
