Cynthia Cooke's novel Peter's Return is book five in a series about a team of investigators trying to take down a Venezuelan drug lord.
The main characters are Emily and Peter Vance, a couple who divorced because of the strain of Peter's job with the CIA. When Emily travels to a clinic in South America to serve with Doctors Without Borders, she and her colleague are kidnapped by drug kingpin, Baltasar Escalante.
Coincidentally, Peter has been on assignment for three years trying to get close to Escalante, and runs into Emily as she cares for Escalante's dying son. Old feelings are rekindled as they try to escape from Venezuela.
This story is full of adventure. Set in the middle of the jungle, the protagonists are faced with everything from hungry jaguars to grenade-launching thugs as they try to make it back to the United States. In the midst of very real physical danger, both characters also have to face the barriers and wounds that have kept them distant from God and each other. It is a story of second chances, listening to and trusting God, and overcoming fear.
Very well written, action-packed with just the right amount of spiritual turmoil and resolution. A great read for suspense lovers.
Book 5 of Faith on the Line brings us into the Venezuela jungles.
This book is quite action packed.
As Dr Emily Armstrong and Dr Robert Fletcher land in Venezuela to work at the Doctor's Without Borders Clinic they find themselves on the wrong route. It don't take long to realize they have been kidnapped.
Emily had divorced her husband three years ago because she was so lacking in adventure that she could not handle Peter Vance's CIA job. Not knowing where he was or when he would return again. After an explosion where he almost lost his life, she left him.
Brought to a drug lords compound to care for his young son dying, Emily is shocked to see Peter. They had not known in three years if he was dead or alive, there had been no contact.
This story includes Jaguar's and snakes and extremely large spiders. I can wear you out reading it!
Great story. Ready to read book six where it all comes together.
again, love how this series DOES unravel parts of the mystery, yet keeps you hanging looking for more! you TRULY get invested in the characters, and i love that they're intertwined
