...FOR MURDER?
Marina had moved to Maddensfield to escape her haunting memories. But the nightmares had followed her--and so had a shadowy stranger. Did someone want her dead? Or had she committed an unspeakable act--one she had no memory of? Might she find safety--and solace--in Cagney's arms at last?

I really enjoyed this one, the hero is the quiet brother who is going through a tough time because of what happened when he was detective in the city and he had to shoot a teenager. And then in his quiet hometown a murder happens and he finds the heroine near the scene, painting and he finds her attractive and her habits intriguing, she sleeps in shifts, works at an advertising agency and no matter how much their attraction flares up into the physical he stops because he hasn't dealt with what happened and is punishing himself. The heroine has a weird life, terrors that made her hospitalized as a teen and she has found a coping mechanism, her parents understand her and her one relationship couldn't handle the truth, so she isn't forthcoming with the hero in the beginning.
The hero is mighty distrustful of the heroine at plenty of moments in the book, someone seems to be setting her up and terrorizing her and I felt the mystery was nicely solved with the heroine's real birth mother's murder. I also found the book was smoking hot.

If I was to rate the book as being one of Lisa Gardner's new type of writing, I would give it a solid 4.
Since I'm rating it as any romantic suspense, I'm giving it a 5 !
As always, the author did it for me : the plot, the characters building, their background, the sociological aspect, the romantic story as well as the suspense, I loved it all !
And I've already ordered the next book, so I'm keeping an eye on my mail box ^^

86. Nice start. MCs have deep issues.
This first kiss scene jars.
Alas there are no perfect books except for The good book .. as it .. is God-breathed.
96 No way would she wear a loose skirt to paint and then have her bare belly showing. This description is sexy for the hero but not practical for our heroine mural painter ..Therefore thumbs down on that!
240 romance not the strong point of this book
Surprise twist at end.

Very good entry in the Guiness Gang series by Alicia Scott. There are 5 total and I would put this as my number 5 favorite out of all of them. It just goes to show how good the other books are.

This was my favorite out of the Guiness Gang series. Marina and Cagney were extremely likeable characters, and their story was a sweet, enjoyable read.
