Aren McAllister is a beautiful but shy and withdrawn young woman who has battled a stuttering problem her entire life. But then, seemingly by accident, she discovers that she wields an incredible power: she is actually a witch and can cast potent spells . . . but only by singing them.
This discovery throws Aren into a dangerous power struggle between different factions in the society of witches who live among humans unknown by them. And for the first time she encounters a romance that may change her life as much or more than the powers she never knew she had.

Witch Got Your Tongue? #1 – I had the pleasure of reading Ms. Washburn’s Naughty or Nice last year and loved it. I love this book even more being a big good witch fan. The storylines are rather interesting and has a new twist to the common theme of a non-practicing witch, which made the story even more interesting.
The characters are great to good. The relationship of the roommates is believable and realistic. Even the baddies are developed enough to get their number. There is good dialog and add a cat that is not a familiar.
There’s humor throughout the story shutting down in the last couple of chapters, which are full of drama. I enjoy the author’s writing style and love the Texan speak as well as the location being set in TX. The pace is good, constantly moving with no slow spots. The witch makes one mistake near the end of this book but it’s the catalyst for the rest of the story. The only bad thing is the ending, there is none since it appears to be one book cut in half. There is one more book to this series. Even with the ending, this story is worth 5*.
Book Review- Witch Got Your Tongue by Livia J. Washburn
Aren McAllister has a difficulty speaking. She stutters and it has made her life miserable. She can’t seem to find her way. It’s hard living under the shadow of her brother and the disappointment of her parents. She didn’t finish college as she couldn’t choose a career she felt comfortable with or a chance at success. Her self-esteem is extremely low. So she is forced to work at temp agencies to make ends meet. That is how she finds herself delivering singing telegrams on Halloween dressed as a sexy witch. It’s her first day and it seems she sings a curse to the last client without even realizing it. She is shocked as she has never been able to cast a spell. She has been the failure in her family. All the members in her family are brilliant witches. This curse changes her life. Her parents tell her the reason she stutters and the reason she is unable to cast a spell. She now has a crazy woman after her and a witch’s council in an uproar. The positive thing is she has met a man, Donovan, after he saved her from a mugging. Aren strikes out to find answers. Unfortunately she is surprised at what she finds. Then everything goes wrong and she doesn’t know what to do to fix it. The plot of this book was an interesting one. I like the idea of Aren coming from a family of witches but being odd man out. Then add in Aren’s stuttering and she is quite the insecure character. You feel for her instantly. It truly sucks to be her. The mystery surrounding the woman named Angela is intriguing. The reader wonders along with Aren who she is and why she is doing the things she is. When Angela goes after Aren it is completely baffling. We are just as clueless as Aren is. So it keeps you reading the story to find out what is really going on. There is some humor, however, when she is delivering the singing telegrams in her outfit and her boss Sherry seems like a hoot. Sherry was very protective. I could just see that scene in my mind when Aren is being confronted by the client she cursed. I do wish Aren was a little stronger and stood up for herself. I hope it changes in the next part. She needs to realize how awesome she is instead of beating herself up. In other words she needs to get really angry. I hope that her anger at the end of this book carries her into the next. It will be interesting to see how she handles things. I give this book a 3.5 out of 5.
This review might seem different than my usual. Since this is a rather short novella length, at least in my opinion, I am writing up a novella style review. Seems fair, right? Because let's be honest, it doesn't make a lick of sense to write a lengthy, wordy review when the subject book was under 100 pages. Don't let the page count fool you though, this is an excellent end of summer beach type read, something to relax with, a brief repast from everyday stresses. I'm not always a fan of the short story format but I do like when a book can make you chuckle and simply entertain for a short period of time. Witch Got Your Tongue was exactly what I needed last weekend, a lovely break between chores.
I enjoyed Aren and all the challenges she faces in such a short period. She stutters when she talks and seems to have a few confidence issues, especially when compared to her overachieving brother and well-to-do parents, but watch out if she starts to sing. That's when the magic starts...literally! Don't think to find plot spoilers here. All I'm saying is that we have a couple of bad guys, some startling revelations about her family, the discovery of extremely powerful abilities, man trouble, and a possible job as a singing Mrs. Claus. And let's not leave out the cliffhanger ending.
The ending reminded me of a teaser trailer and I'd really like to know what happens next. Maybe a full length novel? I guess we'll wait and see.
This story follows Aren who has stuttered all her life but discovers that she can sing without stuttering. This leads to a discovery of magnitude (to her) and so the story starts.
This is a quick read and is ok. For me there's just a tad too much insta-love that is then shrugged off as a spell later on in the book, along with a "horniness spell"! The book was funny in places and quirky in others but was very 'sweet'.
Good for a coffee break book but with the ending, I hope you have book 2 lined up straight away.
I read the book in one sitting and could not put it down! I have been anticipating this book for a long time and was thrilled when it was published and I got to read it. My mother who is not a fan of "witch" anything REALLY enjoyed reading this book. She said she would with out a doubt pick up the second book when it comes out. I think Livia has a beautiful way to capture the characters in the story and it really deserves more amazing reviews! It is by far one of the best books I read this year!
This was a great and VERY quick first book in this series. I enjoyed the character development and can't wait to see what happens next, and next and next. I was disappointed in the ending, but that's just cuz it didn't go how I wanted, lololol. VERY fast read!
This was a "cute" story about a young woman who discovers that she is actually a very powerful witch. She is sweet and trusting and therefore a good witch.
I am a big fan of the author's Fresh Baked series and I think I will stick with that one.
This was a really good short story! I really liked the storyline and the descriptions were vivid! I did not like the ending, but what can you do when it is supposed to be a Short story?!
This is a paranormal short and I enjoyed it. I like the balance, not too dark which many urban fantasy are and humorous. Just right. Hope the second one is as good.
