Sherry and Merrick's story continues in this sequel to Collide. In this installment, we come face to face with old acquaintances and new friends and new enemies. Things will change for all of them especially when a little girl is found and everyone's loyalties are tested. A revelation may upset the delicate balance they've all tried so hard to set. There's new love, new rivalries and new transformations in the continuing series of Collide.
Shelly is a NEW YORK TIMES & USA TODAY bestselling author from a small town and loves everything about the south. She hoards paperbacks, devours sweet tea, searches year-round for candy corn, loves to site-see in the new areas they travel to with her husband's job, and adores reading but doesn’t have much time to these days with all the characters filling her head begging to come out.
Her own books happen by accident and she revels in the writing and imagination process. She doesn't go anywhere without her notepad for fear of an idea creeping up and not being able to write it down immediately, even in the middle of the night, where her best ideas are born.
Originally.....Collide was way WAY longer, almost 500 pages when I finished. So I cut it shorter and added it to the beginning of Uprising (Hence the part 1 and part 2) I loved writing this book as much as the first because I got to add some different POV's and you really get into the meat of the story behind the Lighters and what may come to help aid Sherry's little family in ending them. The addition of one person in particular was a blast to write (If you've read it I think you know who I'm referring to). Though a little cryptic at times, this book flowed just like the first while writing it. Every situation just seemed to throw itself at me at the most opportune time and 4am was my bedtime for many months. I hope you enjoyed this book as much as the first, or better. There will be more to the Collide series and I can't wait to give it to you!
Lighters are still in charge, Keepers are still the enemy and Specials are still coming to terms with their gifts. The world is going to hell in a hand basket and Sherry and her family are just trying to survive. At the beginning things get moving right away, bringing in new characters and new problems. With the new additions to the family, relationships will be tested, and lives forever changed.
Of course I am still in love with Merrick...my favorite Keeper! And you won't be able to resist new boy, Cain. Sherry is adorable as ever, and if she thought she had it bad in Collide, she hasn't seen nothing yet. Four POV's are shared throughout the story and hearing what each of these characters had to say, and knowing how they felt made the storyline all the better. Drama, romance, suspense...its all here.
This story is so wonderfully unique you cannot put it down, it literally engulfed me. Uprising had me bursting at the seams happy one moment and completely heart broken the next. I feared, I loved, I teared up, I rejoiced...right along with everyone in the story. (At one point my nook about became a missile.) I was an emotional wreck throughout the story. A great story should bring many emotions.
Reading this book was such a wonderful delight. By far one of my most favorite series ever. LOVE IT!
Alright so I just finished book 2 of this series and I don't really know what to say. On one hand, I really like this story. On the other, similar to book 1, there were details that distracted me from the story. As usual I'll start with the positives. The story itself did get better like I'd hoped. There is more action, we get to see some darker sides of the characters, and there are some pretty unpredictable twists. We get to see the story from some new perspectives and that made Cain my new favorite character. There were some interesting new developments and some more unanswered questions but I'm hoping book 3 will tie that stuff together and answer those questions.
Now this is the part I dread, having to explain the negatives because they bothered me that much. First of all, whoever edited the first two books (and hopefully not the third) REALLY needs to step it up. I mean, the phrase isn't, "what in the worlds?" Its, "what in the world?" There shouldn't be "his" where you're referring to a female. We should stick to past tense OR present tense, not use both. A sentence shouldn't look like this: "I pulled back and looked up at him to saw his green eyes bright and burning." I don't think it was as bad as it was in the first book; there aren't as many highlighted phrases in my copy. Then again, maybe I got used to reading that way. Another thing that bothered me was the difference in the ages of the kids. It seems to me that only six or so months have gone by and in book one, Lily was 3. Calvin was at first 7 and then suddenly 10. Now in book two, Lily is 4 because they say so and when Calvin's birthday comes around, he's turning 12. Its confusing.
Even more minor things bothered me. There was mention of people looking out for a character "even Keepers and guardians." Um... the Keepers ARE guardians... Also, in an effort to keep this spoiler free, I'll just say this, there are a few situations these characters got themselves into that had me baffled. This happened to me with another book recently. After everything they've been though, after all the things that have happened, how can they STILL be so naive?? How can they still fall into the traps and remain suspicious of people they should know better about? Ok, I'm ranting a bit, but I couldn't help myself. I'll stop now.
Anyway, I just wish some of these things had been looked over. It really is a good story, I'm just hiving to push myself through to see it and I don't want to have to do that. I have to read book 3 now and hope someone else did the editing. Hopefully, I can give book 3 more than 3 stars.
Warning: This book is CALIENTE! Hot... Hot... Hot...
My Cover Thoughts: I love the new cover! Congrats Shelly for the new art work. Four hearts representing the four people she loves the most. You’ll have to read the book in order to find out who they are.
My Thoughts/Review: This book picks up where the last one left off. Sherry and Merrick are now a couple. Danny is safe for now but there is so much that has happened. They have had to move around just to survive and some of the people they are with have been hurt or killed. Sherry is getting weary because the Takers have taken over the world and are looking to kill anyone that turns their back on them. Sherry is hidden in a bunker with Merrick and Danny and they are trying to figure out how to fight the Takers.
While in this bunker Sherry has become the mother hen and everyone looks up to her. She has become the go to person and she also keeps everyone together. She and Merrick are nurturers and try and soothe everyone’s fears. In the second part of this trilogy Sherry is in trouble and Merrick has to find a way to save her and keep everyone else safe.
In this second book you get to meet new characters and you even get to see some arguing and some heart break. This story grips you right from the beginning. I promise you, you will fall in love with Merrick and The Lighters who have come to save the world and destroy the Takers and restore Earth back to its natural beauty before the Takers took over.
Memorable Quotes: Page 38 Merrick is talking to Sherry. “Sherry, please. I’m dying here, baby. Gah, I wish I knew where you were! I assume that Cain is with you. I hope he is... Unless he’s the one who... I’d kill him. I have no idea what happened but don’t be scared, honey. If nothing else just hear my voice and know I’m coming for you. We’re heading out right now to come look for you two. I love you. Stay out of danger. I’ll find you. I promise.”
Advice: This is a must read series! Shelly has the next syfy best seller on her hands. Once you start reading you will not be able to put this series down.
It pains me that I absolutely hated this book. I FORCED myself to finish this...and many times I was going to just give up on it. The only reason why I did not is that I read not one, but THREE of Alyson Noel's books. And this one was no where near as bad as those. But I'm sorry but the love star, as I am calling it, was just too much for me. Why is everyone in love with Sherry? It is terrible. Not interesting, but actually extremely annoying. And she cries ALL THE TIME! Then Merrick. So unrealistic. I mean okay he's an alien--but even then there is no way for him to be absolutely perfect while being in the body of Sherry's ex-boyfriend who tried to rape her. This book is worse than the first with not sticking to a plot. It is just all over the place and most of which is completely pointless to the story. I will not be reading the next one. Also extremely annoying--the random song lyrics. Completely irrelevant, and useless noise in the story. I skipped over them. I am not sure I will read Devour....I really liked the Significance series and I will read the new one to that...but I am not finishing this series. Gotta say...I usually do finish a series I start, even if I don't like it. But this book was torture. It took me almost 2 days to read it, and that is saying something for me.
ORIGINAL REVIEW: 5 stars -- Yeah, completely sucked in to this series... I think I know why people may have found it boring (or the first book or whatever)....it's b/c you actually get to read some happy time stuff...I LOVE that. It's not just conflict and craziness, but the occasional chapter of feel good love stuff. It was very satisfying.... Only thing that made me want to dock it a half star was the explanation for the loss of the light of the moon....that was terrible. Seriously. I don't know why it bothered me, but luckily it was only a tiny sub point on a page...it just stuck out. Was it just me?? OK, on to the 3rd -- woop woop!
REREAD: 4 stars -- I figured out that I am reading an old copy of the books, so I won't talk about any editing mistakes, since it wouldn't be accurate to the current available copy of the books. I really need to talk to Amazon about getting that fixed...grr. (besides which, it wasn't as bad as the first book. Still there, but more easily looked over)
So the loss of a star from the first read to this one was just that I found the characters could be a bit one dimensional or something....I'm not entirely sure what it is, but occasionally Sherry would get on my nerves. She was almost too good you know? I mean, I know that's her character, but it got to be a bit unbelievable at times. Maybe I'm just more cynical 4 years down the line??
But I LOVED that we got to see more POVs in this book, and I loved the developments with Cain and Lillian. I almost find them to be more interesting than Merrick and Sherry. There's a bit more grit to them or something.
And the obstacles and climaxes in this book! Hoowee!! It felt like I'd just started the book and we already had our first crazy encounter with Lighters and Markers, and then it just kept building in Part 1! Then we got a bit more of a break, but with some great developments, and then we got first the Cain/Billings/Lillian/Daniel craziness and then that ending!!! Definitely sucked in and just want to keep reading the rest of this series! I'm remembering more of why I was so enthralled in the first place, and even with my issues with characters I'm loving it!!
Uprising continues with Shelly and Merrick's love story that began in the apocolypic Collide. The chemistry is explosive and draws the reader into the relationships that build among the rebels. This book opens as the resistance has built an expanding underground bunker under a convenience store. It is the perfect hideout outside of town and provides much needed shelter for the group. Throughout the book, the group continues to grow in numbers as they seek out other Keepers and Specials who need shelter. Sherry has taken a caregiver role by cooking and mothering the group. Merrick and Jeff are looked to as the leaders and protectors of the ragtag family.
Relationships are what really make this book shine. Sherry and Merrick continue their wonderful love affair and are the glue that binds the group together. Lines between Specials, Keepers, Lighters, Enforcers, and Regular People blend and flow naturally as wonderful new relationships blossom and grow. This book will make the reader question the definitions that we put on people in our lives and how that affects your relationships. The labels for people in our lives are nothing compared to love. There are many suspenseful scene of action, resistance fighting and rescue also that round out this story. Again, Ms. Crane delivers a great tale of love and relationships set in a world of paranormal creatures from another place.
March??? MARCH?!!! how am I supposed to wait FIVE MONTHS! *sniffle sniffle* seriously you do not understand how good this book is! (Well if you've read it you do and should so come talk to me) but the rest of you! Gah you are missing the awesomeness! The amazing epic awesomeness! I dont even like apocalyptic books and I am in love! No one but Shelly Crane could pull this off in such a way that I could be so thoroughly in love with a book in a genre I usually dislike! So if you're a fan of apocalyptic books or you thought you hated them like me. Well the verdict is that it doesnt matter. It's jus one of those books you are destined to love. It was too amazing for words and those kind of nooks are just amazing. How an author weaves words in such a way as to leave us completely speechless. What talant! I am in love with the series as I should have known I would be. I mean, come on, after Significance how could I have ever expected anything less? Shelly Crane is one of the most talented authors on the YA scene that I have ever read and if you have not read her books you are missing out!
Oh no! At the end of this book, the second in the Significance Collide series, we find protagonist Maggie Sherry captured by the enemy. No joke, I honestly feel that this book mirrors the Significance series just as much as the first one. However, this time we got to see in multiple points of view which was definitely a nice change of pace. The first half was just like the first...Shelly and Merrick alternating their insecurities and obsession with each other. The latter half was much more interesting as we also got some insight into Lillian and Cain's thoughts. They have a much more entertaining relationship and real issues, unlike the main couple. I'm becoming really invested in some of the minor characters; they really just make the entire book. I love Jeff and Ryan! First half of the book: 1 star, Second half/supporting roles: 3.5 stars.
An uprising is coming, it was bound to happen. While many are falling, who everyone really is begins to show. While the group of people living underground begins to grow, there is no way of really knowing who's side everyone is on. It's all a matter of who you trust.
Even while Sherry and Merrick gather people to join them, the Lighters' army is growing- and any idea of hope is dwindling down. Should they fight, or live the best they can quietly? Can they live though either?
While I am usually not a big fan of a book with changing point of views, that factor just made this book more enjoyable. I loved all of the drama, action, suspense, all of it! This book is something for everyone! I think I liked this one more than the first!
Wow! I'm still completely hooked! This book will definitely keep you on your toes! You never know what to expect. I thought I might have a heart attack a few times! But it's all balanced beautifully with the growing family of misfits who are learning to love & trust more than they could have ever expected. It's amazing the strengths you can find inside yourself when faced with disaster and that's what they are all learning along the way. Sherry & Merrick continue to amaze me with their ability to love and there seems to be some new relationships blooming in the hide-away, too! I am definitely addicted to this story!
This was a great read. I was a little annoyed when Merrick was fighting with Sherry and I was like how could he not believe her, then the cliff hanger at the end. I just wish the third book was coming out sooner I can't wait that long please hurry lol. Shelly Crane is one of my favorite authors, I look forward to reading more of her books especially Devour (her new series) when that is released next month. I would definitely recommend reading this series, you won't be disappointed at all.
What overcomes an alien invasion and the disappearance of the moon? It's the worldwide answer that everyone knows (well, at least should know) it is love. That is right. With true love you could get through anything. Cliché I know. But when you start reading this series you'll know what I mean. I love this book with all of my heart.
I always hate it when I finish a good book, no exception here. I loved the characters. This is the first series with a paranormal feel that I've read and i really loved it.I can't wait for the next book in the series.
Oh boy, this book was so goood! Plenty of action, love, and drama...I just love the cast of characters involved, as they each bring something different to the story. I can't wait for the next book in the series! This was just excellent!
I love the way Shelly Crane writes. What she writes are believable. You feel like you are there in the book, and you know these people personally. She leaves this book with a great cliffhanger....now I must wait for the next one to come out. I highly recommend anything that Shelly writes!
Great sequel!!! I love how the other characters were used more than just Merrick and Sherry. I love them together, but it was nice to see the story told through others eyes. Can't wait to read the third one!
ok so I'm reading this book now and I love how much action there is. I'm constantly going back and forth with all the characters and I love it all. it has so much passion and I love a story that gets me worked up.
This series is fantastic! The storyline is unique and fast-paced and I just love the characters!! Thank you Shelly Crane for another awesome book! Seriously can not wait to read the next one!!
I love this authors stories, they are really fun and well told however be aware that traditional gender rolls are strongly reinforced. She does this throughout her books and though its extreemly annoying it's still a good book. Here is an example of the main male character about the main female character-- "I’d heard all kinds of excuses that girls gave to spurn men’s advances. They were tired, they just ate, not in the mood, not now, not yet, I’m watching my show, I have a headache. Sherry has never, not once, given me an excuse... if I wanted her to kiss me, she did so willingly and smiled about it. If I wanted her, she practically ran ahead of me to make it happen. Man, I loved her so much. She was the anti-girl girl."
Characters are well developed and the story line is wonderful. I can't stop reading and don't want it to end. My only problem is all the internal conversation but half the book is based on internal monologue so it makes sense. Can't wait for the next book!
Not my favorite of Shelly's, but still good. Characters are nice. Everyone is a little too nice though. I want Sherry to just kill Piper already. The story while it moves quickly is sometimes too quick. There were multiple times that it seemed like it would be the end because they won.
Yet again Shelly Crane has written a sequel that is enthralling and excellent to the point at which I cannot wait another second to pick up the next book. Of course, I’m in the car while I am writing this so I can’t. The introduction and reappearance of new characters adds to the growth and excitement of the Collide series. Shelly Crane gets you emotionally invested the characters, making Uprising another great addition to the series.
I have always admired Sherry for her inner strength in the books, and this is no exception. She and Merrick go through a heck of a lot more in this book with the reappearance of some other characters. They are constantly ripped from each other when they think it's the safest, and they only get a little while tho enjoy the married life. I really loved the addition of Lily. She was very sweet, and she was like the glue that held everyone together.
Cain and Lillian were very exciting to read because they had a lot of baggage and it was nice to see them as friends before any romantic relationship went on. Lillian is really sweet and sometimes comes off as weak, but like Sherry she has a loyal and brave heart. Cain being in love with Sherry wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. He really wanted to try and stay away from her for Lillian's sake, but I'm worried that it won't last. I would have liked to see more of Jeff and Marissa, but I guess Shelly Crane has to prioritize.
What I liked about the Lighters/Keepers plot is that it appears very complicated, but it is easy to follow. You know what's going on the whole time, and it doesn't drag like some other books I've read (*cough* The Host *cough*). Crane was able to incorporate a lot more action with the additional POVs, which was really enjoyable to the reader. There were some interesting developments in the story, and some mysteries that have yet to be resolved. There WAS a cliffhanger at the end, but it was a good one.
One of the problems with having a lot of characters is giving each one a fair amount of personality and background. I think Shelly Crane did an okay job with this, but I wanted a bit more depth to the characters of Jeff, Marissa, Piper, maybe Ryan, and possibly Lana. Another thing that was hard was the fact that the switching POVs made me miss the other characters. I particularly like Lillian and Merrick's POVs, and I found myself missing the other for half the chapter. I know it's a balancing game, though, and I'm happy any way she writes it.
Overall, great book and I CAN'T WAIT to read the next one. I like how Shelly Crane writes about lots of characters as a family, and the action doesn't overpower or is shadowed by the characters and relationships. 4 out of 5 stars -M P.S. I really wish there were a boxed set for the Significance and Collide series. (Wink wink, nudge nudge Shelly Crane...)
