NYC

The book was a very quick intro into the history of NYC. It doesn’t go into a ton of detail but wets your appetite to learn more.

Waste of time

This book spends more time talking about Cleopatra's Needle than POC New Yorkers. The things the author chooses to prioritise documenting are bewildering.

The book starts with the British invasion of America in 1776 at New York City. The book notes that the British took prisoners and placed them on boats and some 10,000 prisoners died from what they encountered.

New York City was the nation's capital for a short time. Then the book talks about immigration into New York City and the establishment of Ellis Island. It talks about specific ethnic groups and politics in the city.

The city is separated into five distinct boroughs. The book then describes them. Then the author talks about culture in the city. Then he talks about the major newspapers in the city. Next he talks about the Statue of Liberty. He moves on to talk about the Freemasons and Cleopatria's Needle. Next he talks about the Twin Towers and what happened to them. Finally it talks about the High Line.
Altogether an interesting book.

Love the Big Apple???? Well this very brief book gives you the low down on one of the worlds most exciting cities. I grew up combing the streets of the uptown 5th ave and then the lower East Side. Love it all but found out so many interesting factoids reading this book. LIKE- did U know that Cleopatras Needle (obelisj) is located in Central Park? Or that the Bronx is home to Hip Hop??? I can't wait to go back and find some of these little gems!
