20 Psalms and Devotions to Help Children Learn More about Who God Is The Psalms are full of “You Are” statements―like “You are my rock and fortress” found in Psalm 31. For generations, Christians have used these phrases to praise God for who he is and what he has done for his people. These short, simple statements provide wonderful opportunities for parents to teach their children about the character of God and reflect on who he is in powerful ways. In this book, professor, pastor, and father William R. Osborne presents short devotionals around the 20 “You Are” statements found in the Psalms. Each devotional is followed by a short prayer that families can pray together as they read. Using a clear and warm style, Osborne provides a distinct connection between the gospel of Jesus Christ and God’s goodness, holiness, and mercy as they are illustrated in the Psalms.
God, You Are: 20 Promises from the Psalms for Kids by William R. Osborne is written by a pastor as a devotional. There are 20 short "You are" devotionals written to help children understand the character of God. Each reading starts with a Bible verse, then there is a short devotional reading, followed by a prayer.
God You are Holy, My Deliverer, a Shepherd, My Shield, and Everywhere. These are just a few of the 20 topics addressed in discussing God in this book. There are beautiful illustrations by Brad Woodard for all of the devotions.
I think this a a nice devotional that could be used for family devotions, home-school devotions, Sunday School devotions or for another similar group of children. The book is 48 pages long and is about 7.2 by 8 inches in size. It is hardcover but does not have a dust jacket. God You Are is aimed at children ages four to eight but I think it would be good for the whole family if you use it in a family setting.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher through the Amazon Vine Program. All opinions within this review are my own.
Beautifully designed book with beautiful artwork but even more beautiful are the devotionals leading children (and adults) to praise God. The praise devotionals are grounded in 20 “You Are” statements found in Psalms but in each is another supporting verse found elsewhere. A short prayer follows each devotional. As the book description says, the author “Osborne helps young minds make a distinct connection between the gospel of Jesus Christ and God’s goodness, holiness, and mercy as illustrated in the Psalms.” There is an addendum with even more Psalms to explore more attributes of God.
