My friend who’s studying English read this to me today. Very fun experience. Reminded me just what a wonderfully wide variety of excellent verbs exist in the English language. (Such as "beady eyes", "leapt", “spring”, “trotted”, “stammer”, "mumbled", "rumbled"... there are so many different verbs in this book alone for different manners of walking and speaking. I love it.)
And the phrase “As dusk was gathering” caught the ear of both me and my friend. Very poetic.
I also got to learn (or relearn) the meanings of some new British English words including "scatty" (disorganized, absentminded - short for "scattered", I wonder?), "stout" (referred to interchangeably as “ale”), and sensible (seems a little different than the American usage?), among others.
Love the way Tony Ross draws the wolf, especially his feet. 🐺
