Conversational Tagalog is an introductory-level text that was created for adult foreign/second language learners of Tagalog. The book provides situations that are relevant to the lives of adult students.
Taking the Tagalog 402 class at Sacramento city college. Much of the text seems to be outdated and my professor pointed out some error in the book as far as spelling. Overall, it's still a great tool to use when learning Tagalog
I love this book, but a class environment is definitely necessary. I can see the value in all the conversation activities. There's only so much you can get out of it without a teacher to provide correct pronunciation examples. An audio CD would definitely help.
Would not recommend for solo self study. I believe I'm adequately supplementing the study with Tagalog Rosetta Stone. Rosetta Stone is an excellent resource for developing adequate speech. This book helps much more with grammar, conversational context, and cultural understanding.
Bottom Line: Necessary book for a well rounded development of Tagalog language skills, but is insufficient on its own.
Textbook used in Elementary/Intermediate Tagalog course at City College of San Francisco (CCSF) NEEDS to have a co-ordinated audio/cisual computer component!!!!
