Getting pulled from SWAT to work as an undercover nanny wasn’t something Miranda (Randy) was trained for, but with danger lurking, she puts her whole heart in to the job at hand. Taking care of a precocious little girl couldn’t be that difficult, but Randy’s unintended results were amusing. Her mini charge, Fiona along with her doll ’Petwa’ was simply adorable. The feelings developing between Randy and Fiona’s dad, Quinn sometimes took a back burner to the suspense, but was still very enjoyable.
I’d read Quinn and Miranda’s story before and I had forgotten just how feisty Miranda could be! Trading quips with Quinn kept them both on their toes and let Quinn see her in her element as an officer. Quinn could be standoffish, but around Fiona, his softer side peeked through leaving a smile on my face.
Nanny 911 is part of The Precinct series and can be read as a stand alone.
Good book and conclusion to the SWAT series. I really liked Miranda and the way she thought outside the box. She also had no problem speaking up when she had a point to make. She wasn't thrilled with the idea of playing nanny, but knew that protecting Quinn's daughter was a vital part of the mission. Quinn didn't know who was making these threats, but he would do anything to protect his daughter. He was surprised at how much Miranda appealed to him as a woman - totally unexpected. But he didn't want to think about it until the threat was over.
Congratulations, Julie! I told you this was one of my favorites...2012 Daphne du Maurier Awards appear below.
Category (Series) Romantic Mystery/Suspense Winner: Julie Miller, "Nanny 911" (Precinct: S.W.A.T. Team series, book 4)
I loved this book, Julie. I wished it had been longer. Can't wait for you to write a sequel. Hint. Hint. Another strong female character holds her own.
So I read this book before any of the other S.W.A.T. Team books, but it can be read as a stand-alone novel.
As a Christmas gift from my grandmother, I was a little skeptical to read this, considering my tastes (including a few scattered YA novels, crime novels, psychological thrillers and classic literature) definitely varies from my grandmother's for obvious reasons.
But upon picking up this book as a short, light read before the New Year, I was very impressed and definitely shocked by what I read and how much I happened to enjoy it.
The story centers around fearless police officer Miranda (Randy) Murdock, and the somewhat egotistical, bookish Clark Kent-like Quinn Gallagher, a handsome widower who runs a fantastic security company. As far as storylines go, this one definitely takes a step back, and has its own definitive spark of originality that is not often seen in stories nowadays.
When Quinn Gallagher's three year old daughter, Fiona, loses her nanny due to a possible terrorist threat on the company that comes complete with startling messages threatening to off his cherub-like (but somewhat spoilt and bratty) daughter, Randy is called in to go undercover as her babysitter and help track down the threat that could potentially bring harm to the Gallagher family.
The love story between Quinn and Miranda is fresh and unique, bringing many new aspects into it which have previously not been explored (i.e. the woman as the strong type, the man as the bookish, quiet one et al). The tension is undeniable, and the split perspectives really work. Julie Miller has a style of writing which is original, unique, and has the incredible ability to make you unable to put the book down.
I'm not a fan of very long novels, and I like something fresh to read when you don't feel like following a complicated storyline. Julie Miller fulfilled on both counts for this book, with a novel that isn't too long (but also not too short), and whilst it has a meaty storyline, it isn't so difficult you need to write down everything that happens so you don't get confused.
I am looking forward to reading the rest of the series, and I have to give this a 5/5 on principle alone.
*Side note: This is one of the most perfect covers for a book, and I'm very impressed. Here you can see Quinn, Miranda, Fiona, and of course the best character of the book "Petwa".
In Miller's romantic suspense novel, SWAT team member Miranda Murdock is clueless about how to care for a three-year-old and knows even less about cooking. But she can shoot the wings off a fly which is why she's protecting the millionaire Quinn Gallagher's daughter. The little girl is tugging at her heartstrings while Quinn is doing exciting, forbidden, bedroom things and making her job riskier each day. Quinn is determined to find the killer threatening his daughter's safety. Despite the danger, he wants Miranda with a shocking intensity he never expected. The elite cop is a puzzle he can't figure out as desire builds between them. As New Year's Eve approaches, so does the killer's deadline. A wonderful installment to The Precinct: SWAT series.
I loved Nanny 911 , it was so sweet and same with Protecting the Pregnant Witness it kept me guessing and thinking about the threat with a big doze of great Romance.... I loved Miranda, she was so strong and yet sometimes vulnerable and insecure that I couldn't help but be drawn to her... I loved her relationship with Fiona, who by the way was one of my favorite characters ever... Quinn was perfect too.. he was so protective of his little girl and I loved how the author made the bond between Miranda and Quinn so strong cause she built it on their care for the little girl.... I'm definitely gonna read John's book (Miranda's brother) so I can get a glimpse of Miranda and Quinn and Fiona and see what happened to the two...
Aspects of this story were great. I love reading about kids and Fiona was cute. However, I had a lot of trouble with the believability of the case. Just didn't work for me. And I have a complaint about Miranda -
Julie Miller did it again. Loved how she dealt with competency and insecurity. A lot of suspense and you're never quite sure who all the bad guys are. It was a story filled with suspense, mystery, puzzles, redemption and love. I'm a sucker for kids in a story. Julie did a great job tying all of these elements together in a satisfying read. Looking forward to reading the next book.
Quinn and Miranda's Story...He's a very rich computer nerd and she's KCPD through and through. So, why is she his daughter's nanny? And, who is trying to kill them? Very intense, very dangerous and very puzzling. Can Miranda keep them safe? What about those pesky feelings between Miranda, Quinn and Fiona? Highly recommend. Enjoy!
I just finished reading this book and it was awesome from beginning to end! The characters are interesting and the dynamic between them was captivating!
No Eye infection can keep me away from any book! This was a great book! I just loved it so much! I'm so happy to see how it ended, I'm even surprised that "Randy" and I have similar mindsets too. I may not be in a job area, But in my daily life I have that same "Don't stop, Keep fighting till it's done" Mindset. Great book, Julie!
Such a sweet story between Quinn and Miranda, and I can't forget about the adorable Fiona. Love is always so much stronger when a child is involved. Loved this book. Now on to the next one...
