Desperate Hours: A Lake George Mystery is a terrific first novel from writer Thomas Kane. The book is set in the Lake George (upstate) region of New York, a location I have never visited, but Kane's descriptions made me feel like I knew the place inside and out. A 4th of July holiday with friends turns into a terror threat that only protagonist Matt O'Malley can stop. But O'Malley is no superhero. He's a mild manner attorney who is ill-equipped for such a mission. In the hands of a lesser author, the story could have spun out-of-control, but Kane "keeps it real" while telling an exciting, entertaining story.

I give high marks to this breakout novel. I'm looking forward to more from the author.

This book was a terrific summer read. Set in the Lake George area on a July 4th it is fast paced, has an interesting plot and interweaves all the elements of a good thriller. The day goes from an innocent get together of lifelong friends to the potential for an international terror incident. A new writer, in his debut novel, Kane really held my attention. I found it hard to put this book down. Highly recommend it. Looking forward to a follow-up book!

This is a fun read for anyone who enjoys a good story; and it will be especially enjoyable to anyone who has ever been to the Adirondacks. He incorporates lots of local history into the story.

I loved it!
