Shirley Jackson had such a unique and powerful way of contrasting "otherness"/unique individuals and mob/group mentalities. She truly inhabits and portrays this small family of eccentrics, especially protagonist/narrator, Merricat. Jackson/Merricat's her vivid POV truly enables readers to delve into this family's unusual world and fate.

This was kind of a creepy story about 2 sisters living in the run down family mansion. They have established routines and patterns because both are quite eccentric. An interesting read, no surprises really.
