Amaranthine #5

The Quickening

Rate this book
For many of us an alternate reality exists. There are powers of darkness and light, good and evil-which are constantly at war in our Universe. Too restless and too insatiable to be satisfied, those entities and beings seduced by the devourer, create havoc in the world of normal humans and exist to thwart the purpose of those who protect free will...for any living creature.

I'm Cadeyrn, a new reality began for me in 1850 while excavating at a castle In Scotland. My associates are Rune, a powerful warrior who travels through time, tied forever to the Moonsword, and Bree, a former slave from ancient lands, who is a skin walker. Among us we have Lindsey, whom we now call Senka, obviously hunted by a powerful Vampire, and who is much more than she seems. Our young lab created genus, Talon, starting his own quest for answers. There is also Myst, who is, we presume, mortal, suffering from amnesia--and about to discover that the name we've given her may add more questions than answers to her beginnings.

Those who are seers, and receptive people among you -who sense we are not what we appear, they call us, The Amaranthine.

As we strive to uncover what gave us immortality, and with it--our Achilles heel, so that we may protect ourselves and mortals from the enemy, we endeavor to save those who can be saved, before they are seduced by the false promises of that which works in darkness. But we have just entered a new phase of enlightenment, because the world has grown darker and more treacherous. You see, the thing about evil is, once you let it see your power, it begins to desire it, to covet it, and you find yourself being hunted too.

We have made a life in this state we find ourselves, but we must be vigilant, if we want to survive. Our lives are like a journey where time may not constrain us, but answers that guard our immortality, are behind a secret door that both darkness and light may win the race to unlock.
