Super easy read. The author exudes heartfelt prose, but isn't a very sophisticated wordsmith (e.g., misusing the word 'eminent' when he clearly meant 'imminent'). A bit off in certain characterizations and interpretations, leading to some overmoralizing that isn't always smack on, but Keller isn't a theologian. Slows the David story down to a more easily digestible pace. Not sure where to get my hands on a copy of the sequel...

Great devotional for 1 Samuel and David's early years. Keller has great insight into the political and social venue of early Israel. Application to life today.
