Have you ever known a hypochondriac? A visitor to the Tennessee mountains where Kate and Paul Hanlon are ministering to their new congregation brings new meaning to the term.
Read at the behest of my grandmother. It is not good. The only way I could maintain my sanity was by tracking the descriptions of the characters' terrifyingly jovial moods. Allow me to share my findings:
Times characters chuckled, or were tempted to chuckle: 38
Times characters laughed, nearly laughed, or tried not to laugh: 58
Times characters smiled, grinned, or beamed: 145
Things I wish I would have also tracked: snorting, winking, and the number of times the main character's Faith Freezer ministry was mentioned.
Kate is eating out and a strange woman collapses onto her lap. Kate feels sorry for the woman and visits her at the hospital, even bringing her home. As the friendship grows Kate knows something is wrong, the woman is totally overwhelming, not wanting Kate to have any other friends and not letting anything about herself be known. Kate’s husband is training for a 10k and their son and famil visits. When the woman tries to hurt Paul’s reputation, Kate knows she has to do something.
