A while ago I inherited some forty books from two delightful members of the congregation who died last year in their nineties. Among those books was this collection of sermons from a few years before I was born. It was fascinating to read them and see what was the same and what has changed. A few great sermons from people who had worked in Africa; interesting that they were English men who worked in Africa, not Africans. And of course all the preachers were men. Looking some of them up I have now discovered Eric James (1925–2012) and have even bought a couple of collections of his sermons. I kinda wish collections of sermons were still being published - I put a lot into mine and they are a very temporary medium.
