An intermediate-level reference work, just right for me. The first half of the book, "Techniques", includes step-by-step instructions, and the photos mostly show the techniques applied in context of a real project. The second half, "Themes", gathers a variety of works using the same kind of subjects and analyzes the techniques in brief, accessible captions. Notable for the diversity of the artists, human subjects, and places represented in the examples.
An essential guide for those who wish to perfect their technique with colored pencils. Clearly organized and structured, it offers well-defined resources that facilitate learning, almost like browsing a web directory where each section leads directly to the necessary information. Inspiring and practical, it is a valuable tool for beginners and experienced artists alike.
A great tutorial for the beginner. I read this version many years ago. I have restarted my art journey so I bought this version. There is an updated version available but it was more expensive. 4 stars due to being a bit outdated now. However it still remains a very handy reference
I never imagined I'd be reading an art book of any sort but here we are. It's the only one I've ever read and it seemed good for me in that it demonstrated basic techniques for the complete beginner.
Courtesy of Search Press, I have a gorgeous book to share with you today, 'The Encyclopedia of Coloured Pencil Techniques: A complete step-by-step directory of key techniques, plus an inspirational gallery showing how artists use them' by Judy Martin.
This title is 22cm x 22cm square in shape and 11.5mm deep. It has a glossy cover and 176 pages, which are smooth and in full colour.
What instantly strikes me about this book is how beautiful it is from front to back. It's filled with inspirational and high quality printed photos of pencil colouring, plus absolutely jam-packed with tons of step by step guides on a multitude of techniques, which you can see for yourself on the contents page.

Disclaimer: I received this book in exchange for an honest review.
I received this book after winning it in a giveaway. It came in an ideal time. I am a designer and I was just telling my co-workers how I need to get back to drawing. I skimmed through the book and was impressed right away. I must give a big shout out to the designer that lay it out because it is easy to read and navigate through. The examples are amazing.
