Now that Jensen's dirty little secret is out, the King of the Seelie Court has ordered her capture. So if she wants to remain the master of her destiny, she must place her trust in an unexpected ally and do the one thing no one else has done before—locate Merlin's bones. Because in the game of Light versus Dark, whoever controls his bones, controls the fate of the Summer Kingdom.
The last of the trilogy, Oathbound is easily my favorite of the series. The plot, the storytelling, the characters, everything was superb in this novella. As much as I enjoyed the others, this one pulled me even farther into the world the author created. As in classic fae stories, nothing and no one is as it appears and that kept me glued to this book.
Jensen had a lot more humanity in this book than in the others. In the others, she was so caught up in all of the changes and the unknown that it was as if she, as a character, just didn't have it in her to really feel. That is not a criticism because I felt like it fit the story. She was overwhelmed and emotionally numb from it all. But in this book, it was like these things finally hit her and flooded her, and made her feel. It added a nice layer to the story, giving it a bit of non-fantasy normalcy.
I am sad to see this short series end. It was a fun read that let me escape. There was a lot of the fun and whimsy that fits the fae genre, including the use of flowery language and descriptions. But the author knew where the line was and didn't go over it. There was a lot of darkness, too, that balanced it all. I truly enjoyed this book, and this series!
Jensen unintentionally using shimmerspell to save Liam from Luca puts herself in an awkward position...leaving herself open to indentification. As her father takes her home not speaking to her she asks if he hates her...as things settle but not resolve between them she lays down to ponder what to do about all the people who want h er dead.
Then the new adventure begins Eiden knocks in her window and not believing he has I'll intent she let's him in. Then an unlikely source comes to her aide Brennen, the siren. He convinces her to leave once she realizes her dad has been knocked out. The go to the twins only to be attacked and the twins throw them into another country. In the woods of France is where she discovers that Brennen has actually fallen for her and after how things ended with Liam knowing he choose his oath over her she thinks maybe not a bad idea, I concur I heart Brennen!!!
As more revelations take place and secrets revealed she ends up having to choose to save those she loves over her own personal fears will she make the right choice?
This is a really quick read as is all of the trilogy but a lovely one. I look for more from Kimberly.
I dunno. I still feel there is so much more that could have happened, so many more depths of character we could have obtained. The story was ok, but it was based on the old mythology and if you are not well versed in the world of King Arthur and Mab, etc. you may find yourself doing your own research. I wanted to like this better.
The reason I gave this trilogy 3 stars instead of 4 is basically because I wish there was more. I really liked all the characters and I wish their stories were a little more in depth.
I liked this book, but I felt it just was too short, I wanted more. I was hoping for Liam to step up. This book left me hanging, too much unfinished bussiness lol
Loved how Jensen and Brennen end up together after all the trouble Jensen has with the seelie court and finding the next in line to be king that does not end up with the faerie world being destroyed.
