What. The fuck was that???????????? It can not end there. Bloody hell!! Shit! I need the next one !!!!! OMG!!!!

I had my theory...and I was right! Holy shit! I knew from the beginning and when we see her again. OMG!!!!! Shit my head is so screwed up!!! Hot damn, that was intense! Lauren Hammond, you evil genius!!!! I'm begging you...I need the sequel! I neeeed to know what happens next. OMG! Adam...damn! I knew it! I. Knew. It.!!!! That stupid wench! Shit! Now Imma have nightmares!! That was damn good! Fucking awesome!

So okay, I gotta say: I loved this book. As haunting and creepy as it was, I loved it! I didn't want to stop reading it. I couldn't put it down and when I did, I would be thinking about these characters and what was going to happen next. Lauren Hammond has a way of screwing up your thought process. I mean shit, I read Insanity and I literally felt like I was insane. She's just so imaginative. I love her haunting stories and characters.

This book was mostly told from Ellory's POV but we get chapters of Adam too. We get to see into the mind of a serial killer. Holy hell, it gets freaky. Even though there's a part of him that is so sick and twisted and evil, I found myself fascinated by him. I mean, what the hell is wrong with me? HE KILLS. HE LOVES BLOOD. HE FEELS NO REMORSE. HE'S MY TOTAL OPPOSITE. WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH ME?

I wouldn't mind being his next victim. Wait, what? I don't want to die. Ah, shit! My mind is so screwed up. Lauren, we need to have a chat. I seriously am so curious how you come up with these twisted, dark and amazingly frightening stories that I just can't stop thinking about.

We meet Adam. He's not your typical sweet boy...no, no far from it. In fact, you should stay away from him. He's evil. Set out to find his next victim...someone who can satisfy his need for blood. He thrives on blood...he needs blood the way people need air to breathe. He compares himself to vampires. I think it's more of a want though. He wants the blood, not like a matter of death if he doesn't get it. He's had this problem since he was a young boy and as he got older, his desire to see more of it becomes stronger. But he moves to a new town when his dad gets offered a new job. Moving from Chicago to a small town in Ohio, he decides to try and keep his inner blood demon at bay as much as possible. He wants to make friends. Start a new life and leave his sadistic past behind. But can he really do that after all the killings from his past?

Well, when he meets Ellory Graham a girl who doesn't give him a time of day and has a mouth like a sailor(and me), he's intrigued by her. He's determined to change and possibly be the normal sexy teenage hottie everyone believes him to be...but only for her. Except...a leopard doesn't change their spots-do they? Can Ells really change him and save him from the monster lurking deep within him?

Buy it. Read it. Find out. This book will have you on the edge of your seat. It's got plenty of action, mystery, romance and a lot of "oh holy shits" to keep you turning the pages. I love Lauren's writing. She has a way of taking the readers on this thrilling chase right along with the characters. I was wide-eyed and open mouthed a lot, my heart was pounding, I was wincing, I was oohing and ahhhing and biting my fingers in fear and anxiety. But I loved every minute of it! I really need that damn sequel. REALLY BAD!!!!! We ALL need that sequel! That damn ending gave me a heart attack but I had my suspicions and I was right! Wow, was I ever right!!! Damn, what an awesome book! I recommend this book to lovers of the Dark Duet series and Find You in the Dark...it's a mix between the two. And it was fantastic!! Bravo Hammond..you're a genius!

4.5 Killer Stars!

Yes... the lead male in this book is a sociopath and a killer, but I still loved him!!! Haha! What does this say about me???

Meet Adam:
 photo Whispertoscream-Adam_zps441c1334.jpg
He was devoid of emotion. He was numb- like a living robot- programmed to act like a human, but wasn’t human at all.

Adam doesn’t ‘feel’ like normal people. His birth mother had the same issue. When Adam was a baby, she left him on his fathers doorstep. Adam learned early on he was different. He liked blood. Even as a child, he has blood lust. It calls to him. He goes from pricking his own finger, to killing animals, to hunting bigger targets...
He wanted to see the life flow out of something living, to shiver in delight when he saw the red, sticky substance pour our of veins, like hot magma from a newly erupted volcano.

He kills and he has no remorse. But he is really good at hiding who he really is. He is a straight A student, a popular guy, and a football star. Adam lives in Chicago with his family. His girlfriend goes ‘missing’ and he is investigated. But his father is a top defense attorney so nothing comes of it. After his father gets transfered from Chigago to a small town in Ohio, Adam looks at this as a fresh start. He will control his urges and leave the past behind. But its easier said than done... Then he meets her-

Ellory:
 photo Whispertoascream-Ellorly_zpsc13082c8.jpg

Ellory is not a normal girl. She is such a likable character though. She doesn’t give a shit about what anyone thinks. She speaks her mind. She lives with her mother, she has two somewhat nerdy best friends, and she is known to make out with guys from her school, do keg stands and has a potty mouth to boot. Adam is intrigued by her. After spending more time with Ellory, he thinks maybe he could be different. Ellory is the first girl that doesn’t bring out the desire in him... the desire to kill. He looks at Ellory’s neck and see’s something to kiss, not slice. Adam and Ellory are happy together.
Adam makes me feel alive. I’m bursting with light inside. My wall has been demolished. I’m open- happy and I love the way it feels.

That is until Ellory descovers what Adam is... Will it change everything for them?

 photo Whispertoascream-blood_zps257e25a3.jpg
Maybe I’m stupid. Maybe I’m just as evil as he is by keeping my mouth shut. But he told me once that I was different. And I can’t help but hope that me being different is the one thing in this world that can save him from what he fears the most…Himself.

Oh boy- this book is crazy! But in a good way. I enjoyed it. It has some suspense and action, it’s a little dark, but not scary. It is also funny a lot of the time. And wow- that ending was A MESS! I will say, there was a twist that I caught pretty early and I was proud of myself :D I really need book 2, like now! I have to know what happens to these two!!!

Okay I have a pretty good idea what this book was trying to be, but sadly it just couldn't pull it off completely.

I give it 3 stars because of the potential this one has. And it did cause me to need to know how this one ends. Therefore I couldn't put it down. But the whole time I was wanting not only more of Adam's POV, but an in depth look into him period. Which I did not get.

The book starts off with how Adam comes to be. Then we hear Adam's voice, his thoughts, & see his actions. Which are beyond frightening & dark. Then it shifts to our heroine, Ellory But she takes up majority of the book with her POV. Which was too much, too long, and way less interesting. Unfortunately this continues till the end. You get snippets here & there of Adam but not nearly as much. So you get a huge shift in the story but it's very unbalanced. So much so that you often wonder "Ok, why am I reading so much about this girl's teenage angst, when I really need to be reading about Adam?"

And then of course this book ends with a HUGE & very confusing cliffhanger. It was so abrupt & jumbled, that it leaves you with the impression that the author just decided to stop writing.

This one wanted to come across as dark, sinister, & twisted but sadly it lost that mark once you're introduced to the heroine. And it never gets back on it's path.

Hopefully things will be more balanced, clear & take on the tone it was trying to take here, in book 2.

But I strongly advise if you pick this book up, make sure you have book 2 as well. But be advised, book 2's release has continuously been pushed back for the past year. I'm not certain if it has finally been released though.

Oh, for the love of all that is sane and good in this world, this book has royally messed with my head!!! I should have known after reading Insanity and seeing that the name of this series is "The Sociopath Diaries" that this was going to be one of those books you don't walk away from unscathed. And no, I did not...

From the start of Whisper, we know Adam's secret. We know what he is. We see from his perspective how he lusts for blood and feels no remorse for what he does to get his release. It's disturbing, sickening, and inhuman. And we see Ellory for what she is; the rebel hurt by her absentee dad, determined to buck the system and be herself. Neither one of them was headed anywhere good, and neither one of them knew any way to be different. But the moment they meet-he's intrigued by her unwillingness to throw herself at him like all the other girls, she's thinking he's just a gorgeous ass like the others-something just falls into place like a lock and key. For the first time in his life, Adam isn't picturing the awful images he always sees when he looks at other girls. And Ellory is forced to break down the walls of ice around her heart to let this frustrating boy in. She doesn't know what to make of him, but she knows for the first time she's letting herself really feel. But Adam's cool, sexy exterior still hides the monster within, and Adam fears that he will lose her forever once she sees him for who he really is. Can love really exist when you feel nothing? And can Ellory really love someone who's cold inside?

Just sitting here thinking about this story, my mind is racing and my conscience is screaming how wrong all of this is. I mean, how completely messed up is it for readers to be hoping a sociopath get his HEA?? Well, yeah, that's me! Part of me wants to bang my head on the wall to knock some sense into myself, because in all honesty what Adam has done is unthinkable. There is no overlooking what he's done so that they can walk off into the sunset happily together. There's no cheesy epilogue about their 2.5 kids and beautiful house with the wrap-around porch. I can't even begin to fathom how this series will ever end even remotely happy, because Adam just can't get away with what he's done. But that doesn't stop me from wishing he could finally be free from the monster within; I so wish Ellory could be that one thing that finally breaks him from the cycle and sets him free.

I was of course creeped out by Adam's behavior throughout the book; there truly is a very sick and twisted part of him deep inside. It's almost like he's a schizophrenic, with one of his personalities being this soulless monster and the other being the gorgeous, smart jock that everyone falls head over heels for. It's amazing how much he embodies the typical YA romance heartthrob in many ways, all the while covering up this horrifying secret. It was terrifying sitting there wondering if that evil within Adam was going to rise back up, knowing that it was just one more reason that we should loathe him and want him punished. I was so incredibly conflicted, battling between my feelings for both sides of this troubled character. I was even conflicted with Ellory's feelings; when she discovers who Adam is but still wants to be with him, half of me wanted to shake her and scream "are you crazy??!!", and the other half was thinking "awwww, yay!!". On second thought, maybe I'm the one that's schizo...

This book was just awesome, it had me so hooked that I flew through it in less than a day. The story was unique, entirely disturbing, and captivating, and it was as much of a psychological thriller as it was a YA romance. As the last few chapters roll around, Hammond throws in a major twist and utter chaos!! All of this leads into an ending that had my heart racing and my mind thinking "oh, sh*t, NO"!!! OMG now we're left with the cliffhanger that will surely be utter torture until the sequel!! Hopefully it will be out soon and I won't have to suffer long, but I absolutely can not wait to see what happens with this story!!

Geez Louise what the hell was that! Seriously that ending had me screaming WTF!! I really can't believe it and I'm actually shocked to the core with this one. This book has had my head spinning from the moment I read the prologue and first chapter. We are introduced to Adam Jacobs and he's lust or more like need for blood. You can say he is somewhat like a vampire in that the thought of blood sends him into a frenzy but what's worse is that this book is not paranormal. The characters are as raw and real and as human as they come, which scares the shit out of me. I was thinking to myself "what the hell did I get myself into." It really wasn't what I expected, but at the same time I could not stop reading it.

This book is freaky and creepy, and raw and honest, and captivating and enthralling. I felt like a possessed women trying to work my way through the pages, and I felt conflicted. I mean you know the truth about Adam while you are reading but you can't help yourself being drawn into him and his world. You can't help but feel sorry for him and want him to be good, but deep down you know he is the monster he claims to be. And then you shudder to think that maybe there is the chance he is not, that what he feels and does can be healed but then the bad in him wins...can you see why I was conflicted?

The moment that Adam feels good or worthy about himself is because of Ellory. Oh man this girl is so much fun. She is not the good girl that gets swept up by the bad boy. She is the bad girl who sneaks out at night, gets drunk, hooks up with other people's boyfriends and finds herself brawling any time she can. She is sass mouthed and takes no shit from anyone...she is a breath of fresh air. I really admire her ability to be who she is and not change for no one, not even a guy. And for the first time in both their lives they find a connection with someone who is good for them instead of harming them. They find that with each other for differing reasons. For Adam, it's to keep the monster hidden in a cell and for Ellory, it's to learn to trust and let someone in. It's so weird but beautiful and the same time.

Eventually, Adam's monster gets the better of him and Ellory soon finds out the dangerous side to him. But the remarkable thing about that is that she is not freaked or scared of him...seriously if this was me I would be running the other way! Instead, she accepts this because she loves him and knows he can be a better man than that. So, as soon as she confronts Adam about this, so much goes down and before you know it we are at the end of the book where we are left with one MOTHER OF A CLIFFHANGER! Oh dear Lord in heaven, what the hell just happened and why oh why are we left hanging over the edge like that. Seriously I need book 2 now! Lauren Hammond, is a brilliant writer who takes a risk in her writing and it pays off big time...you have me hooked!

4.5 Stars!!!

Wow! What a roller coaster of emotions! Gripping, thrilling, creepy and at times funny!!!

Adam

The prologue was amazing and really just pulled me in I had to know more! We meet Adam as a young child, he's confused and has these deep, dark cravings. Although he's a child without emotion he knows immediately that these craving aren't normal and keeps them too himself. As he grows older he tries to suppress them and hides them behind a facade. He becomes the perfect poster child, a young man who is the pride of his family. But secrets have a way of showing themselves when you least expect it.

He slips up, but luckily for him a new job offer for his father takes him and his family away to another town. He vows to become a new person and hold the urges back. And then he meets Ellory, when she's around he for the first time in his life he feels like a normal teenage boy. He forgets about all his wrong doings and is drawn into her light and pure world.

Ellory

When Ellory sees Adam she's blown away by his good looks like every girl in the school. But when she sees who he's friends are she immediately hates him. But Adam realises he wants Ellory she's the light he needs to bring him out of his dark thoughts, finally Ellory gives in.

Their relationship changes Ellory she becomes happier person who was, but she soon realises, that somethings not right with Adam. Adam pushes her away when he feels he's too far gone and the urges are overwhelming. At this point everything and everyone are in turmoil in the book, it's a constant push and pull of emotions.

After a few close calls and a discovery, we come to a shattering finale (which isn't really), where secrets are exposed and new truths are uncovered!

I need the next book now!!!

Interesting premise for a YA book (boy fascinated with blood and the need to kill, except for when he's around this one girl, giving him hope for a normal life) but there was just so much wrong with this book I don't even know where to begin. And don't even get me started on all the grammatical errors on nearly every page, such as missing words, improper comma placements, ect.

This story held so much promise---and I found the first two chapters rather intriguing---but it went downhill fast from there. It read like a really rough first draft to me and I couldn't overlook all the gaping flaws. There was also a lot of unnecessary scenes that didn't really serve much purpose other than boring me to tears.

Despite all that I see potential in this author and will probably still read more from her in the future, hoping she's improved since this. I'll even check out the second book in this series---if it's ever released---which I hope it is since the ending leaves the reader with a whole lot of questions.

Not burning questions, mind you, but annoying ones that definitely need answering. Readers of this story deserve an ending---not a perpetual cliffhanger.

Just to be clear :this is a 4.5 stars!
I'm still shocked , I mean how can I not be shocked after such a horrible terrific, amazing ending? I mean yeah I'm still kindda freaked out about the whole "issues" Adam have (That's obviously why I didn't give this book 5 stars) , but the ending is....!! what Am I supposed to understand from it????????!!!!!!! It's not fair!!! and now God knows how long I have to wait for the next one, to know what lays ahead for Ellory ,and Adam!!!
I have to say I read this book, and continued reading it because of friend's reviews who were encourging, and I don't regret reading it, it's just I'm bothered by it like hell!! I mean Adam can be this amazing charming, funny, sexy, guy, but still what about the other part of him?, that's why it was hard for me to really like him, the only thing that made it easier for me to accept what he is (which I honstely don't know yet) is that perhaps in the next book it will be revealed why he is the way he is, and hopefully that explanation will work well for me.
But above all this was a great book. <3

Lauren definitely has a way with words. She can make even the most disturbing situation seem understandable. I guess the fact that this is fiction put my mind at ease because if i knew someone with a secret as dark as Adam's, i would probably freak out. The way she describes the characters in the book and their feelings is hauntingly beautiful. Just like in "He loves me he loves you not", the feelings between the characters are... i don't know the right word...obsessive??...possessive?? none of these words match the feeling i got when i read about them, but the words EXTREMELY INTENSE might cover a bit of it. I kept wondering how Adam and Ellory can have a sane relationship especially when Ellory found out Adam's secret The ending left me wanting to scream "when will the next book come out??!!!"

This book was just plain horrible.
There, I said it.
You know there's always that one person who makes a joke in a crowd and nobody laughs? Well that was exactly what I could think of while detecting the shallow attempt at humor in this book. Basically it's about a boy who is fascinated by blood. He loves how it flows from the wound. He loves it's color and it's richness. This makes him want to kill. His urges are kept at bay by this one girl he meets in his new highschool. This one girl, who has the power to change him.
Yeah, bullshit.
The premise of this book seems highly ineresting, I'll go as far to say that it was totally my kind of plot but the way the author wrote it....perfectly good idea ruined.
There were so many typos, poor expressions and basically illogical writing. There.
At one point our female protogonist inhales our male protogonist.
What the hell?
That's not it, because apparently he smells so damn nice that she 'inhales' him further. I admire her supernatural lungs. Really, I do.
I also admire the hair-color changing ability of our hero.
When he was born he was a blond, then as the book progresses, he becomes a brunette. O.O
Honestly, I might have forgiven all that, if there was a good character build up, but no, the characters were as shallow as they could be. There was no depth to them. Ellory who is made out to be a bad-ass is nothing of sorts. She fucking contradicts every single thing she stands for. What was supposed to be a strong heroine was made out to be a wannabe. The characters were pretentious, the writing hollow and the romance clichéd.
'I loathe him. Even when I'm drunk, I loath him'
Literally the next chapter:
'We have a connection. We don't need words. One look and he knows me inside out.'
'What I feel feel for him is stronger than like....'
-_-

Couldn't finish.
I recommend it to NO-ONE.
All these 5-star reviews really astonish me.

WOWZA!!! Just read Insanity a couple of days ago. Now I plowed through A Whisper to a Scream....the hell with laundry or feeding my family....they can eat cereal! lol I've become a Lauren Hammond junkie and find myself stalking her page trying to figure out when book #2 of the Sociopath Diaries will come out. Soon please!!

Adam is a twisted, let lovable guy. Does that make sense? Nope. But I felt it. Ellory gets in a bit of trouble herself, not sure that she is ready for someone like Adam. But the chemistry is undeniable. A spark that even dead bodies won't put out! What I love about Hammond is that she takes this story about a sick twisted sociopath and makes me like him. I really do.

I don't want to say much about the story.....but highly recommend the read. I had an idea about the ending, but did I really get it right? Do I really know what is going to happen next? That is what I love about Hammond's writing.....she will blind side you and you will never see it coming.

For me this book was brilliant!

I mean ok, ok, ok there is a little room for improvement. Like maybe one good look through with a fresh pair of eyes could catch the typos and misplaced words that are sprinkled here and there throughout the book. But as you can tell from my 5 star rating I thought the book was still too good, even with the errors, to take a star away.

I will warn you that at first it might be a little confusing to read. It switches back form Ellory's POV which is first person present, to Adams POV which is third person present. And while the first couple of switches are slightly awkward, in the end I get it. I think it honestly needed that.

With Ells POV the way it is you feel a connection with her. With Adams POV you feel the disconnect. And I think that is important because what I take from the book is this...

Ells is a girl that is trying desperately to live numb. Always trying NOT to feel anything. While Adam is desperately trying to feel ANYTHING. He is completely devoid of emotion, and if he could muster the concept of hate...then he would hate it. Either way Adam knows he is a monster. It's not until meeting Ells that he thinks maybe he is starting to feel something. That maybe there is more than just the monster that he has known all his life.

While Adam is intrigued by this and trying to pull Ells closer to him. To see just how much he can feel. Can she make him feel love? Ells is pushing him away because she is scared of what she feels for him. The push and pull work great, and I couldn't get enough. The twist in the end is dark and perfect. I can't wait to get my hands on the in this series. I need to know where this all goes. A part of me thinks that maybe Ells is slightly bi-polar. I would love to see if that's the case. Like can an over emotional bi-polar girl balance out an devoid of emotion sociopath boy? And vise versa?

I will tell you this...this isn't for the faint at heart. Now please don't misunderstand me, it's not all American Psycho. It won't make you vomit...well at least it didn't me. But it is pushing the bill a little on YA and you need to keep an open mind while reading this book. For the squeamish it just might be a little too much for you. But I say this is hands down a series to look out for.

Is it taboo, and maybe heading in the direction of the Banned Book List? Quite possibly...but don't that make it even better;) lol

WOW. The story was so intense. The prologue and the first chapter got me so hooooked. Like i couldn't stop reading it. Making me feel also obsessed....in a good sort of way;) Good thing the novel was written on both characters' POV, so we could get a glimpse on what's going on their minds.

I can't help but compare Adam Jacobs to Dexter Morgan (from the American TV drama series), except that Adam is way younger, hotter and preys on women.

Adam Jacob is such a darkest character I've ever met/read. His urges and the way it or his fascination was described on the book was ever so detailed. But there's something about him, sick or not, makes him so irresistible. At the first part of the story, I kept telling myself that Adam was a bad guy and he commits murders. But as the story goes on, i don't have a clue what Adam is.

And Ellory is so full of fire, though she sometimes could be b****, i love her strong character. She's no damsel in distress, she's really a tough fighter.

Adam came out cold and Ellory was hot. I believe she and Adam are perfect for each other. Though totally complete opposite with each other, the attraction exists and it is intense.

Oh, but the ending left me hanging! I wanted more! What happens now that Adam's mom appeared? Would she be a threat? Will Adam and Ellory's relationship progress? What is Adam really? What about Ellory? How would she take Adam's secret? Will she fully accept him? And will Ellory be able to help Adam?

So many questions. That's how obsessed i was with the book. Lauren Hammond, thank you for the hard work for this book. It is completely original and I can't wait to read the next one. This book completely blew me away.

I hope 'love conquers all' in this story. Even if it's twisted.

Care for blood anyone?

**A DARK, DEMENTED, SUSPENSE THRILLER THAT HAD ME ACHING FOR MORE **

Ok so I wasn't too sure what to expect from this psycho thriller book, I wanted to have an open mind to see where the author would take me.

This is the story of a teenage boy, Adam who realizes he is different; he's obsessed with blood and killing. As the story goes on he attempts to control his urges but fails and kills his girlfriend. His family moves to a new town and he thinks he will have a fresh start and really control his darker side.

Within the first week of school Adam meets Ellory, a very strong, mouthy, self-assured girl who despises Adam when they first meet. Never having had this reaction on someone Adam is intrigued and begins to pursue Ellory. She's different. Immediately Adam's urges to kill girls disappear when he's around Ellory and for the first time he begins to feel things. The couple struggles to maintain their relationship as Adam fights to keep his darker side and secret from Ellory and she begins to fall for Adam despite all the warning signs.

Hammond has done a great job creating this 'bad boy' psycho killer fighting to stay in and come out. I've never read a book like this before and the way it ended really has me wishing there was a part two coming out soon. I hate when a story ends right at the climax and there is too much left up in the air.

I have to say Lauren Hammond’s A Whisper to a Scream was a really fresh and original read for me—not to mention creepy to the core!

Right from the beginning Hammond sets an intense, dark, gripping mood, which carries through all the way to the last page. And I was on the edge at every twist and turn.

A Whisper to a Scream alternates between the voices of Ellory and Adam.

I think Ellory was the biggest shock for me. I usually identify with the “good girls” who are trying to do everything right. And even when they do something wrong, it’s for the right reasons, or they think it’s right at the time. But Ellory isn’t trying to be good, isn’t trying to make life easier for her mother or her teachers. Ellory hasn’t been corrupted by peer pressure or bad boys. Ellory IS the bad influence—She sneaks out at night. She sneaks out during the day. She gets drunk at parties and makes out with other girls’ boyfriends. Well, ok, if she’d been sober she probably would have just made out with single guys…

And then there’s the new guy in town, Adam. He’s smart, athletic, and dangerous. He’s a good boy, every mother’s dream… Except, you know, he’s a got this thing about blood. But Adam ISN’T a vampire. He’s worse. He’s REAL. There isn’t any afterlife if you’re in love with Adam… just blood.

I got visions of Twilight and Thomas Harris’s Red Dragon while I was reading A Whisper to a Scream—It’s dark, without the sparklies.

I finally understood what all the naysayers have been saying about Twilight. All the things about Twilight, about Bella’s and Edward’s epic and doomed love that I thought were romantic and sweet and passionate…suddenly became scary and dangerous and creepy and unsafe and NOT healthy, not to mention VERY deadly. And VERY serious.

Oddly, in almost a Frankenstein kind of way, I sympathized with Adam more than Ellory. Adam couldn’t help the way he was born, Adam can’t help being a monster. But that doesn’t mean he WANTS to be a monster.

And what do you do when you’re being pursued by a monster?

A Whisper to a Scream is twisty and turny, and by the time you get to the end you won’t know which way to go…just that you’ll want more.

Having just finishing this novel my first thoughts were what am I going to say in my review after finishing this book? How do I put my feelings into words? So here goes.

It begins in 1993 and we are introduced to Hannah. Hannah has a 2 month old baby but clearly has no motherly instincts; she felt nothing for her son even when he was born.

We don't get to find out very much else about Hannah except that she is incapable of loving her child, she shows no empathy towards him and eventually leaves him on a doorstep with a letter for the finder of the baby.

We then are introduced to Adam Jacobs. We learn very early into the book that he craves blood it actually calls to him. His first victim was his sister's pet. He knew what he did was wrong but he felt no remorse even though he saw how distraught his sister was when Eddie went "missing".

Adam Jacobs is handsome, intelligent and an athlete. People would not believe that he would kill anything or anybody but he does. He murders his girlfriend to satisfy his blood lust. Her body is never found.

Adam moves to Burton, Ohio with his family to start a new life. He meets Ellory Graham. A flawed, loud mouthed and rebellious young girl and Adam is instantly drawn to her. Eventually she lets the barriers down as she begins to bond with Adam but Ellory doesn't know about the monster lurking inside Adam.

This book provides the reader with conflicting thoughts. You know what he is but you still hope that he will get his happy ever after with Ellory. You hope that she can break the evil that is inside him.

Then comes the final chapters and Lauren Hammond throws in a final twist and by the time it ended I was left thinking What. The Hell!

The continuation of this story will be an interesting and I hope I get to find out if there is a connection between Hannah and Adam - I have my own thoughts but it will be interesting to find out if they are right or if I am way off the mark.

Would I recommend it - yes - but be warned there are some nasty scenes and a cliff-hanger of an ending.

Onto book 2

Wow: this book actually managed to surprise me.
I read Famished, the dystopian YA novel Lauren Hammond worte.
I gave it 2.5 stars at the time and I wasn't going to read another novel by Ms Hammond again because there were quite many errors and her prose wasn't very neat.
Plus, I didn't think she had that special something that would let me say: "Gee, I haven't read that before!"
Famished just wasn't very original. There were cannibals, yeah, but that was about as original as it got.
When I first saw this book on goodreads, I was intrigued, but sceptical. Sociopaths in YA literature? Yeah, right. I don't think so.
I decided to buy the book anyway. It was cheap, so the loss wouldn't have be too big had it sucked - only it didn't.

So you have to understand that whenever I read a book, I usually like the sick evil guys best. The recent YA trend is to make the main girl shallow, stupid and unpopular. But here's the thing: I'm not in the least bit interested in unpopular girls who pine after some super hot unreachable guy. It just isn't interesting.
Lauren Hammond created a teenage psycho in her work and I immediately took a liking to him. The things he did were sick and disgusting, though I've read worse.
First thing I thought: See, this is what guys you should stay away from are like. They don't only think they're monsters - they actually ARE!
It only took me a few hours to read this - and it was worth every second. I snickered the whole time about the sick things that were happening. And I was actually a bit unsettled about the relationsship between the two main characters. The two of them staying together just seems highly unlikely - even crazy. And I loved that uneasiness.

Seriously looking forward to reading the sequel. And hoping for it to be creepier and less cheesy - I mean, this IS a series about psychos, right? (The stuff Adam said were stupid and strange rather than romantic. Hence the one star I deduced.)

Adam is (UGH, I can't believe I am going to SAY THIS), my kind of sociopath. There I said it. Too late to take it back. What is wrong with me???? Is there a help group I can join??? You find out in the beginning just what a disturbed human being Adam is? How can I hope for love and goodness for this complexed person. This book was different from anything I have ever read and it was an amazing read! When I was reading it, I thought 'now how is the author going to make me like the characters and end this book?' Lauren Hammond made me LOVE the characters and left me saying 'Oh My Gawd!!!'. Cannot wait for #2.

Holy Fuck! That was intense. Great read. I can't wait to read the next one. I only wish I knew when it was coming out. I'm still super confused about the ending so I'm hoping book 2 will clear that up for me. The hardest thing for me about this book is how I feel about Adam. What he does is horrible, but I still feel for him because its not something he can help. Yes, he's a sociopath, but it's clear from the beginning that he got it from his mom. At least he tries to not be that way. His mom is just a straight up monster.

OH BLOODY HELL!! What the hell!! What kind of ending is that!! Omg, I knew I should of held off reading this crazy but insanely good book. Lauren Hammond definitely has a way of capturing her audience and suspending us in the midst of pure hell.. And the hell of course is to wait for the next installment.. Which by the way has no scheduled date to be released.. Aside from that, I am gladly placing Lauren Hammond in my favorite authors category because this lady sure knows how to tell a great, captivating, and intriguing dark story..

Not worth it. Premise is okay, manifestation is not. The characters aren't developed, a lot of the book elements are rushed (characters, plot line, etc.). I dislike Elory's personality very much, and Adam's wasn't developed enough to know much about him. Read if you're bored, but skippable if need be.

LOVED THIS BOOK! Who thought a love story about a serial killer could be so wonderful? And that you'd want him to find happiness! Kuddos to Lauren Hammond for making me love the most unlovable guy ever!

Bleh.

That's all I have to say for this book. Really.

The premise is interesting as was the beginning. But terrible, terrible depiction of teenage minds. Stereotyped to its fullest. One would think it was so easy to get away with murder.

1 Star. Expectations = shot down.
