This is an excellent book of reference for the contemporary Christian. Where this book errs is in the tangents against the papacy, not that the claims are inaccurate but just because it feels out of place to this Christian. Where this book shines is in the explanations of Justification, the means of grace, and the exposition of church government and Christian duties. If the Explanation of Luther’s Small Catechism left you wanting, this is a good next step.

A small group has studied this book weekly for over one year. Well worth reading, discussing and bringing us closer to God and an understanding of the doctrines of the Church. Unlike other books on my reading list, I have discussed this book with friends, each word, chapter and doctrine and then thought about our discussions and how they apply to my life.

Conservative, simple and concise introduction to Lutheran theology. I got tired in the middle of the book and sadly stopped reading, sadly.

Necessary reading for anyone who may be questioned regarding Christian doctrine (e.g. elders, Bible study leaders, etc.). I'm on my second read and I find new revelations on each page that didn't fully sink-in the first time through.
