Allison is a young divorcee living in a squalid apartment in Seattle, working too many hours as an assistant manager of an ice cream parlor, coaxing a few more miles out of a dying Nova, and doing whatever it takes to get a better life for her 10 year-old son, Ethan.

Dexter is a prominent cancer researcher who divides his time between his enormous penthouse in the city and his family’s hundred year-old orchard estate on the ritziest island in the Sound.

They've got nothing in common except Bunny Barnes Winchester, society's most hilarious grande dame and Alison's oldest best friend.

Well, there is one other thing they have in common: an anonymous tryst about 10 years ago. A tryst so wonderful, so mysterious, that neither has been able to forget it, even after the passing of over a decade. And when Allison gets one good look at a picture of Dexter Needham at age ten, and holds it up next to a school portrait of Ethan, suddenly Ethan's special talents in science class don't seem so random after all, and Allison's life and everything she has ever believed is about to get turned upside down in the most wonderful of ways...

I was born in New Mexico back in the fifties (she said vaguely), mingling with the aliens and the big bombs.

My family settled in the northwest, where those rainy days led me to read constantly. I grew up with Nancy Drew, Anya Seton, Gene Stratton Porter, Charlotte Bronte, Thomas Hardy, anything to take me Far from the Madding Crowd!

This was a cute book. Not very realistic in terms of how rich Sexy Dexy is and the situation involved with that. Aside from him being the richest man in WA, the characters and their actions were consistent to their character. I enjoyed this novel.

Predictable, but just the mindless fare I was looking for.

Cute story that had likeable characters that were written well. There were some typos, more than I'd like, but what can you do.

Allison Jennings life is not going well. Her dad abandoned the family when she was young. Mom died when she was 18, leaving her to finish raising her younger brother Ben and put her 18 year old hubby through mechanic school. The marriage to Rusty lasted 2 years. After he left, she discovered she was pregnant with Ethan. Now 10 years later, she's asst. mgr. in the Tasty Freeze, her car just died and her son is turning out to be a science genius. While he's at a 2 week science camp at MIT, her good friend Bunny intervenes and gets her invited to the Needham family July 4th island weekend party. She meets up with Dex Needham, scientist and single member of the family, recently jilted at the altar. Sparks fly, but Alli figures he's too high profile - she just wants an average guy who can pay the bills. The chemistry is too strong though and they end up with a wild night of sex. The next morning she recognizes a birth mark on him - the same guy she had a one nighter with the week after Dusty left. Then she sees a childhood picture of Dex and realizes Dex is Ethan's father, not Dusty, and freaks. His mother also figures it out and tries to buy her off. She leaves, Dex follows, Ethan is his son via DNA, he tries to move them in, she finally figures out he's not so bad and a year later they finally marry. Funny, some sex, good story for the most part.

I liked it. Not exactly 100% believable(heck not even remotely believable), but funny and likable none the less. I liked that the big reveal happened about halfway through the book. The rest was dealing with the aftermath and the disparity of their social stations. I'll gladly read more by this author.

I really liked this book, it was real but fantasy too. The idea of a billionaire, what wouldn't be great about that? all the bills being paid without worry and struggling. Dex is so smart, kind, and just the perfect guy. who wouldn't want that with or without money?

Not a bad read, but not exactly memorable either. Finding out how the two know each other is funny and kept me interested to the end. 2/5 stars.

I thought this was a cute book. I wasn't looking for reality but an escape from it. Kept me laughing throughout.

Adorable romance but not at all realistic. Great book for a quick, light hearted read.
