We read this as an advent book for this year and truly loved it. Each chapter brought extra thinking regarding the incredible story of Christ's birth and His love for us. Max Lucado's writing is beautiful and makes you think deeper about the Bible and its meaning to each of us. This is a combination of sections from several of his books. I truly loved how it was put together with excellent artwork. Pick this short book up and let it touch your soul!
This is a hodge podge of collections from different book Lucado has written to tell the Christmas story and help the reader reflect through the sacrifice given laid upon the hay looking towards being laid upon a cross for the sins of the world.
A compilation of short vignettes from other Max Lucado books. Found this on my shelf of Christmas books collected over the past years and I don't recall reading it before. It is a lovely Advent / Christmas devotional.
This is an advent devotional taken from a variety of Max Lucado’s books on the theme of Jesus’ birth, life and death. I liked a few of the selections but found it overall uninspiring.
One Incredible Moment by Max Lucado examines the commonness but also the magnitude of the birth of Christ. The author imagines the thoughts of those present as well as the effects on all who follow.
When I got to California my mother-in-law handed me One Incredible Moment by Max Lucado and told me to read it while there. This wonderful book is filled with three sections of devotionals. The first was my favorite telling about Jesus's birth from different people's POV who were there that first night. The other two were from God telling about his love for us and why he had to send Jesus down. I am going to buy this book so I can read one devotional a day during the Advent season.
Do you ever feel as though the Christmas story has become routine? I’ve read and heard it so many times that unfortunately now I often glance over it as if it is just another story. Max Lucado’s One Incredible Moment: Celebrating the Majesty of the Manger gave me a fresh look at the awe-inspiring meaning of Christmas. Each chapter in this little book is an excerpt from Lucado’s previous books and is interspersed with photos, Bible verses, and Christmas carol lyrics.
In the book’s first section, the author looks at the Christmas story from the viewpoints of Mary, Joseph, Simeon, the shepherds, and the wise men. Imagining the emotions that each of these people must have felt reminded me that Jesus’ birth was real, not just a story that I hear each December. Jesus – God’s son, God made flesh – was born to a humble woman in a stable filled with animals. The one incredible moment of his birth changed the lives of each of the people mentioned in this book, and it has continued to change lives every since.
The next two sections of the book speak of God’s amazing and overwhelming love, his willingness to send his son to earth to suffer and die out of his eternal love for us. In response to this, the author encourages us to actively, diligently seek God in every moment of our lives, to seek Christ every day, not just on Christmas, not just during Advent.
This book truly does celebrate the majesty of the manger, finding God’s magnificence in the ordinary, in the everyday. God is all around us and is longing for us to reach out to him, to love him. He has given us his love and his grace through his son Jesus Christ. Thanks be to God for his gift that is too wonderful for words! (2 Corinthians 9:15)
Its not Christmas, but found this book in a thrift store and didn't want to wait til Christmas to read it.
I was expecting this to be like most books on Christmas, but was pleasantly surprised. The Christ child was a great gift to mankind, but His love for us to take on all our sins by dying on the cross and providing salvation and eternal life is the greatest gift of all. He did it for me and you.
I actually created a Christmas play for our previous church loosely based on this book. I love reading about Christmas and even though I can't know while I am on this earth what really happened the night Christ was born, it is fun for me to imagine it.
