Using a room-by-room approach, Steeped in Tea explores both the drinking and nondrinking uses for tea, including decorating and crafting, making health and beauty products, and creating special places to truly savor the tea-taking experience.
While I found the crafts and teatime recipes in this book entertaining, and enjoyed the author's playful, informal style, I feel that there could have been more research into the cultural tea party sections. The Japanese tea ceremony, Moroccan tea and Dim Sum were all great ideas but in execution the decor and menus were fun but felt uninformed and Americanized. As these countries (and others mentioned) have such rich tea cultures, I wanted to experience more of that.
While there were a few interesting facts, this book is better suited for a real tea fanatic. I cannot picture myself washing my hair with tea (wouldn't that stain the towels) or decorating my entire house with tea themed wall paper, trinkets, etc. I just like to enjoy a good cup of tea. There were a few good menus for "theme" teas, but otherwise this was not a great read.
