When Darren wins a trip for two to an exclusive holiday resort and invites his work buddy Jamie to share it with him, they are the only two men in the office who know they won’t be enjoying a typical lads weekend away.

Neither of them has any intention of chasing after girls—or even chasing after any guys other than each other. After months of subtle flirtation, Darren and Jamie are finally ready to do a hell of a lot more than stare longingly across the office.

They both know they’re going to get laid, have a laugh and maybe even fall in lust. But neither realizes the weekend has other surprises in store for them—perhaps lust won’t be the only thing they fall in. Especially when one of them realizes that the other man doesn’t just have swimming trunks in his weekend bag—he’s packing leather.

'Packing Leather' is a fun start to a new series. The focus is less on the sun and the beach than the falling into place of a D/s relationship that has clearly been a while in the making. The 'weekend away' was more of an excuse for the two men to come together than anything else. I liked that, since the main reason I love Kim Dare's books is the human angle, not necessarily the setting.

Darren, the experienced Dom, and Jamie, the new sub, are a delightful pair. I loved that Darren was as insecure at times as his new sub. He 'mastered' those feelings like a Dom, though, without being callous or overly macho. He is very invested in making this new relationship work beyond the weekend and is appalled when he realizes that Jamie has any doubts.

Jamie may be a 'beginning level' sub, but he knows what he wants. I loved that he made his own choices - facing the 'punishment' when it came with a mix of trepidation and longing. He may have been overwhelmed with the newness of actually experiencing some of his fantasies, but, as Darren remarks, he has the balls to go through with it.

If you like reading about hot men who indulge in some power play while they figure out their relationship, you will probably enjoy this story.

I didn't get into this one as much as I usually do with dare's stories. For some reason I didn't care as much as I usually do about the MCs. Dare is usually rather strong in this area - so Its probably just me.

I feel like I've reached a point where I've read so many novels from so many great authors that nothing fazes me anymore. Now I just wait for those author's releases and pass the time with novels that are okay.
I guess I could say this was hot and cute and well, all of the same.

I loved this fun beginning to Ms Dare's new series Sun, Sea and Submission. Darren has been lusting after his co-worker Jamie for a while but isn't positive that Jamie is gay. His big chance comes when he wins a weekend at an exclusive gay resort called Pendragon Bay. He shows Jamie the pamphlet and sees that Jamie knows all about the resort. The guys arrive at the resort and Jamie asks Darren to give him five minutes alone in the room before he enters. Darren thinks that Jamie may be getting cold feet but when he enters the room he finds every Dom's dream. Jamie is lying on their bed blindfolded, a ball gag in his mouth and cuffed to the bed. Jamie has been secretly fantasizing about being Darren's sub for ages but never said a word. Jamie agrees to wear Darren's collar and becomes his alone. I liked the way the two men synched together and the fact that Jamie was a brand new, untrained sub. The sex was hot and varied enough not to be boring and repetitive. What especially touched me was the fact that Ms Dare showed Darren's sensitive and insecure side in the scene at the bar. The love and trust that both men shared and took back home with them made the story real for me. I'm looking forward to spending more time at Pendragon Bay.

After months of lusting after his co-worker Jamie, Darren finally has a chance to turn fantasy into reality. He’s won a trip for two to an exclusive resort in Pendragon Bay, one that isn’t for the faint of heart. To Darren’s delight, Jamie agrees to accompany him, both of them knowing that this won’t merely be a “friendly” trip. But Jamie has a surprise in store for Darren. Forget board shorts – for their weekend Jamie’s packing leather.

Forget sun and sea – Packing Leather is all about delicious submission. This first foray into the hedonistic resort world of Pendragon Bay is a combination of sweetness and eroticism. In other words, Packing Leather is classic Kim Dare. Jamie and Darren are both likeable guys who just need that extra push – and some quality alone time – to jump from friends to lovers. Ms. Dare does a good job of setting the tone of their relationship from the start, so the swift jump to the bedroom isn’t at all jarring. All in all, Packing Leather is a wonderful beginning to Ms. Dare’s Sun, Sea and Submission series and I look forward to seeing more of what goes on in Ms. Dare’s Pendragon Bay hotel.

3 stars. Nice, sexy story about two friends who work together finally getting together.

But, really, that's only my personal opinion. Future readings may change my mind. :)

Another super story by Kim - just wished it was longer :)

Darren Clarke and Jamie Baker have been quietly flirting with each other in their office for ages, and when Darren wins a weekend away at a 'special' hotel, he invites Jamie to go with him.

The 'packing leather' of the title is precisely what Jamie packs in his suitcase - to Darren's quiet, but delighted surprise. Jamie is courageous enough to know what he wants and to want Darren to give it to him. And before the weekend is over, they both get what they want (and need)! :)

This was an okay short. Two co-workers who've been feeling each other out finally go for it when one wins a trip to stay at a gay resort. One has newly figured out he is submissive and wants to submit to the other, but wonders if this is just a weekend thing or if it could be more.

Any worry is derived from the sub, wondering about if the dom could feel the same way he does. The dom wonders whether or not the sub really wants to submit. The first scene took up around 1/3 of the book.

Dunno. Just wasn't thrilled with it. But it wasn't a bad story. Just not spectacular either.

A great beginning to another fantastic series by Kim Dare! I am always amazed at how this author gets me hooked on her characters so quickly and how each short story she writes somehow seems so much bigger than it really is. I rush to download everything she writes as soon as it becomes available, and I am never disappointed.

3/5

A simple short story. If you’re in the mood for something quick and easy, then this might be for you. There’s some silliness and some out and out nonsense, but there’s some tenderness. I enjoyed the reading while I didn’t find it anything spectacular.
A good treat and worth the visit.

I love Ms Dare's work and this book is no exception. Jamie and Darren have been making eyes at each other across the office at each other for a while, but neither has acted on their attraction. One day, Darren offers Jamie to join him on a "lads weekend", at a resort they both know to be a kink hotel. Jamie accepts and they soon find themselves on their way.
Jamie is new to a submissive/dominant relationship, but knows, that that is what Darren can and will offer him, and he arrives as best prepared as he can be. But nothing can prepare him for the whirlwind of thoughts and emotions that run through his head. Ms Dare perfectly captures the sub's struggles to both obey and to allow the dominant to take over, although her writing of the Dom, Darren, is, not quite so detailed.
I would have liked a little more about how they might take their relationship back into the he real world of work and home and family, but there was certainly a HFN ending that may lead to more.

★★☆ rounded up to ★★★

This one wasn't up to Kim's usual standards unfortunately ... too much was left unsaid which forced the reader to make huge leaps to fill in plot holes ... for example, the resort had a vanilla side yet despite only 'mild' flirtation, Jamie 'instinctively' knew that Darren was a Dom so (won't spoil the plot) ... it just seemed to be an overly-complicated scenario for the limited word count ... I also didn't like the way that Darren seemed to leave Jamie second-guessing all the time ... just not an enjoyable read unfortunately.

This was a cute story, but I didn't connect with the characters like I usually do with Ms. Dare's books. There wasn't much background on either of them and I didn't understand their motivations. Plus, this involved acts of submission that just made me uncomfortable instead of intrigued.

It's a fun concept, though, with the hotel on the beach. I might look into continuing the series. Perhaps.

Darren and Jamie share and office and some light flirtation but when Darren wins a weekend getaway to an exclusive gay hotel, it's the perfect opportunity to invite Jamie to see if the flirtation can turn into something more. This was a cute short. I liked Darren and Jamie. I thought it was a little underdeveloped, but as shorts go, it was a fun quick read.

I thought Jamie did all the brave things here while Darren, the more experienced of the two, was Dom just to be Dom.

We get to see Darren and Jamie turn their private fantasies into a joint reality. Both characters are vulnerable enough to share their worries and fears. And now they can share love.

Boring

This was not even sexy, even though there was a lot of that. I barely made it through. I recommend finding something else to read.
