This book recounts the story of bestiality from as far back as pre-historic cave paintings to todays practitioners exemplified by for instance the blind relying on his lead dog. Hani Miletskis study was completed by many people, off the top of my head as I remember it, as many as a thousand people. The personal stories are varied and don't adhere to any stereotypes of the "perpetrator" being this or that, but shows how the "sufferers" sexuality developped along both common and unique lines. For instance, there is the story of the free upbringing family that allows all kinds of sexual deviance just for the children of the family to end up in ordinary opposite sex same species relationships in adult life.

I have put this book into my understanding of sexuality as a pretty malleable trait of both humans and animals, just look at youtube vids with sea lions raping penguins or monkey on the back of a doe, dryhumping it. I guess our sexuality develops both along rewarding as well as restraining lines.

The bestiality crowd is treated in a respectful way, not sensational. Regarding the lawfulness of engaging in this lifestyle: it is told by some of the respondents of Miletskis study that some animals take a liking to sex with humans, as some humans take a liking to having sex with animals. It is likewise told that some animals don't like it and these animals are then not bothered further. If an animal isn't protesting to it and even in some cases is reported to seek out sex with the human by "presenting itself", then should that be unlawful? Is a nookie with your doggie to be punished while all kinds of legal mistreatment of animals for food purposes made to pass? Is it worse to please your animal sexually than killing it to eat it? These questions are not adressed directly in the book.

It would take too long to explain the issues I have with how the study was done, and those myriad of things possibly even contributed to the inability of sex research as a whole to get beyond the comorbidity with other psychological or sociological issues. As for the topic itself, I think like, if it doesn’t harm anything, why judge it, it’s just not me, though I’ll admit to having tried.
