After reading this book my sophomore year in high school I sought out and found the author. Living in Miami it wasn't very hard to do. His story of survival became my AP European History project that year. It forever changed my life. I think it merits re-reading.

My English teacher personally knew Bernard Mayer and we read the book. I cried afterwards cause I couldn't bear the thought of having to endure what he had to go through. I am thankful that he lived so that he could live to tell his story and I think that he is a very strong person to be able to relive his horrifying experience so that the generation that didn't live during this time would know what happened. I recommend this book to everyone!

Amazing book... I actually met him at my high school. I answered a correct answer and he gave me this book for free. It was definitely life changing.

Read this book during high school and it was a wonderful read. Our teacher was able to invite the writer to class for a q&a. If you enjoy stories about survival, you will love this one.

This is an amazing true story. I was in awe after reading this authors experience. This book is as powerful as The Anne Frank story, but thankfully Mr. Mayer survived to share his experience.

Read this a long time ago, and I can't say I remember everything, but I do remember that I liked it a lot.
