There are many great historical pictures of the L, which is the true value of the book. The history presented is cursory, although I did learn quite a bit. Oftentimes it would have been helpful if the author would have tied things back to present day (which - much has probably changed since then even).

All in all, a pretty good introduction to the history of the L which has left me wanting to read more.

What a freaky, f'd up history the Chicago L has had...and is having. Who knew it was always so disorganized and crazy, eh? Great look back via anecdotes and old photos. Its main focus are the photos, each with a caption detailing bits of history.
