Neil Anderson (author of the bestselling The Bondage Breaker™ ) and his coauthors expose the trauma of legalism--and show how Christ liberates us from trying to be "good enough for God." According to a recent poll, 57 percent of Christians strongly agree the Christian life is well summed-up as "trying hard to do what God commands." But biblically, making laws our "lord" estranges us from Christ! The authors reveal... Here's encouragement for defeated believers--and an appeal to the church to be free in Christ.

I really liked the first half of this book - it has some of the clearest definitions of legalism that I’ve ever heard, and it helped me identify ways that legalism is still shaping my thinking. The last half of the book isn’t all bad, but I also felt like it could have been a lot more grace-focused somehow. It deals with brokenness and bitterness in ways that I didn’t find helpful. Like most books there is some to leave and some to take. I am glad to have read it.
This book should be required (without sounding legalistic) reading for all Christians. We seek to serve Christ, but what is our motivation? Why do we do things and what are we trying to achieve? If one truly understands grace, we understand that God's grace has already given us freedom because of our position in Christ. Trying to fulfill rules and impress God with actions never will achieve His righteousness. Too many believers are trying to accomplish what already has been given by the blood of Christ. Anderson's clear analysis provides assistance to break the bondage that so many are under to rules and man-made "obligations".
A refreshing look at Grace-based relationship with our Lord! I could relate while he was explaining how people can manipulate you with the law as a way of control...it eventually leads to spiritual death. Amen! There needs to be more joy in Christians, I am excited to ask God to change my ingrained view (which leads to oppression),so I can benefit the kingdom of God in a better way..through Him, not me!
This book helped me to see the sovereignty of God's grace and that He wants aclose and intimate relationship with each of us. Not the harsh firm hand of judgement and law! I appreciate that a good friend recommended it to me!
