Phil Foflio always makes me laugh with his comics. With Buck Godot he has reached his master creation I think. These hurt me I laugh so much. The best comic humor reads out there. mu highest recommendation.
The Buck Godot stories are silly SF/Crime tales. Originally completed in the 1990s, the Buck Godot stories were reissued in nicer bindings a few years ago, and this is the version I just read. While the color reproduction felt a bit "off," the artwork and the story held up well in this new edition. Buck Godot is a P.I. and bodyguard, using the local bar as his office. This bar, which makes the one in Mos Eisley look like Cheers, offers lots of opportunities for humor, and Foglio exploits all of them. In this tale, a mysterious stranger walks into the bar, and due to an odd combination of circumstances, gets VERY drunk. The bartender has the cleaning robot put him in a back room to sleep it off, but then the same man walks in again, complaining about having been killed. This leads to a wild ride of bounty hunting, crooked businessmen and mistaken identities, along with a mysterious stolen object which just might end the world.
In his first full-graphic-novel-length adventure, Buck Godot fights numerous battles against a seemingly invincible, yet perpetually sodding drunk, bar brawler, and in his spare time, guards a secret, immensely powerful device on behalf of an unknown, but highly dangerous, client. This delightful tale by Phil Foglio provides nonstop laughs and a brain-twisting finale, with a cameo appearance by the second most powerful being in the galaxy.
I enjoy the character of Godot much more in this volume than in his early adventures. Once a professional sot, he now acts more the hero than the buffoon.
Another fun, witty , clever Buck Godot adventure. The hefty zap gun fire is trying to deal with local politics, his best friend/bartenders love life and a guy named Psmith that keeps attacking Buck, getting killed and then... getting better?
Will romance destroy Buck's favorite drinking spot? How many times does he have to kill Psmith before he stays dead?
Great cartoony art and humor that fits in the story, rather than distracting from it. I love the Buck Godot stories and wished Phil would do more of them or at least sell the movie rights.
