My kids have an awesome Grandpa, which is my husband's Dad. He loves my kids and makes them giggle a lot. He will even get down on the floor and play with them time and time again. He makes them giggle and giggle and giggle. He also teaches them how to play fan ball in the house. When I found this book, "The Grandpa Book" by Todd Parr, I had to pick it up and read it to the kiddos. In this book it shows different ways grandfathers show their grandchildren love.
My kiddos love this book and really relate to what the author has written on each page. They found the illustrations lacking but colorful. They did want to see more in the illustrations. I loved that it shows all the ways that grandfathers can show their grand-kids love. As it is not always the same for every grandchildren and grandpa. I loved how it written for the youngest one year old all the way to my eight year old could understand what is written on the pages.
I LOVE Todd Parr. I love his wacky illustrations, goofy jokes, and messages of acceptance and love. He has a healthy chunk of my library dedicated to him, but I still feel like I don’t have enough of his books. In true Todd Parr fashion, these books tell you about all different types of grandpas with humor and love. If you are new to Todd Parr, start with The Family Book, The Feelings Book, or It’s Okay to Be Different, then add this one to your library later.

I used this for my Laptime/Toddler Time and I would switch it to Story Time next year. I thought the bright colors would be good for babies, but a lot of the concepts I think work better for an older group.
I seem to have a preponderance of Grandma books and was looking for a simple Grandfather book. 9/5/12
I used this for PJ Story Time, since I had a wide age group. The baby loved the bright colors and kept trying to kiss the book. The older children were entertained by the baby. Also used at Lap Time since I am still looking for young grandfather stories.
We read this book in class today because one of the children in the class grandpa has been dropping him off at school while his mommy is out of town. We talked about our grandparents and even showed pictures to the children of them with their grandparents. This was a cool book, it tells you all the fun things grandpas do with their grandchildren. Such a cool way to talk about and include grandparents at school and home.
It's always wonderful to read a Todd Parr book. They are funny, positive and colorful.
This one is all about grandpas. It's funny, he didn't say anything about grandpas being grumpy. I like the golf pants that the grandpa wears in this one.
I had two wonderful grandpas and I miss them both. They were great guys. One was a gardener and the other was a dentist.
The artwork is that strong color palette. I love his color choices. I suppose it's just acrylic paints.
A colorful book that shows the special ways grandfathers express their love for their grandchildren, from taking them to school to giving hugs and telling stories.
Through simple language and vivid colors, Parr describes the many sides of grandfathers and how they show affection.
Aww, this one was pretty nice. I liked the pages with the Grandpa telling the big fish story and the one with the Grandpa living at the Senior center with his friends. The grandma one was nice too.
The Grandpa Book is super cute and it teaches kids to appreciate their grandfathers. I chose this book because of the bright colors in the illustrating. It shows that every grandfather is different, but they all love their grandchildren very much.
Grandpas demonstrate their love in various ways and live life to suit themselves. This is shown through whimsical and funny illustrations for the story.
I checked out this book to read to our grandchildren. Both sets of grandparents were visiting at the same time. I had planed to read it to the children, but didn't get around to it. I did share it with the other grandmother, and my daughter-in-law. We laughed about the things we saw in the grandpa's. The colors in the pictures are bright, and the pictures are funny. I enjoyed the page with the grandpa, who talks very loud, and the grandchild has the phone a long way from his ear. This picture reminds me of my husband. The book is very short, and the words on each page are few.
My five-year-old son picked this book out from the library this week. He loves Todd Parr books -- me, not so much.
I did, however, love the dedication in this book, and that did predispose me to view this book more kindly. From a very young age, my son has liked the cartoony art-style of Parr, but only for Parr. It might be because he manages to work at least one pair of underwear into every book. It might also be for his over-the-top colorful illustrations. My money is on the underwear, though.
Great story that illustrates what some Grandpas do and what all Grandpas do. For example: Some Grandpas live with a Grandma. All Grandpas like to make you laugh. The pictures are colourful, bright and contrasting. My toddler loves the book. There is also a spot on the inside of the back cover to put a picture of your child's Grandpa. Perfect for a Grandpa to read to his Grandchild.
A celebration of grandpas! Grandpas can do some pretty special and unique things (like wiggle their ears), but all grandpas tell stories, make you laugh, and hug you.
Colorful artwork is rendered in such a way as to look like a child drew them. A great read aloud.
Simple, understandable book about family. This book is focused on Grandpas and offers ideas of different things Grandpas do for their grandchildren. All families are unique and this explains and shows some differences.
Todd Parr's The Grandpa Book is an affectionate collections of anecdotes about grandfathers, boldly illustrated by Parr in his signature style. I can picture grandpas everywhere happily sharing this book with their grandchildren.
