This volume of the “Animals animals” series is a compelling look at an animal we all think we know. The author discusses a few of the 260 species of squirrels and shows how diverse and widespread they are. They include both tree dwellers and ground squirrels. In most cases, they are also very prolific and adaptable. Many species do store nuts for the winter. They locate stashes by smell rather than by memory, so they end up sharing with the other members of the species. We also learn about natural enemies and about humans and squirrels living together.
