Few conditions are more frustrating for women than living with an emotionally checked-out husband. But the Coughlins bring hope, and their freeing message will help wives understand the inner life of their emotionally detached husbands as well as what they can do--and shouldn't do--to create a more satisfying relationship. Paul and Sandy will help wives understand the forces that make men passive, how to handle issues of anger, respect, and resentment, and learn practical ways to nurture intimacy. Married... But Not Engaged informs, instructs, encourages, and inspires as it shows how husbands and wives can draw closer together.
We couldn't even finish this book. The authors keep on referring to a previous book they wrote so this feels like one long advertise to buy another book of theirs. They do not support any of their main premises with Scripture and it reads more like secular, psychological self-help. Avoid this book like the plague.
When I heard this couple speak briefly on Family Life Today on the radio one morning, what they were saying really struck home in my heart. I decided to order the book through the website and excitedly read quickly through it. Although it does have practical suggestions and comments, it seems to be geared more toward the wives of the "Christian Nice Guys". I wasn't a big fan of their use of scripture either, but for the most part, it was a decent book for a little pick-me-up in my walk.
