This is a very well structured textbook. It begins with useful expressions, then moves on to Hiragana and Katakana, and from then on lessons include, a dialogue, a break down of the dialogue, grammar points, exercises, and vocabulary. It eventually builds up to Kanji and by the end of the book, you will have learned quite a few Kanji.

I prefer this over Genki series :) explanations are more thorough and there are more example sentences .
