A real life drama. In this expansive examination of Man's nature, the author takes us into a world where the government controls everything, war is a constant reality, and no one can be trusted. Throughout it all, one family clings to their values while standing fast against the forces that would see them torn apart.
Ranging in time from the distant past to the near future, FEAR! takes the reader on a journey to the center of Hell.
A word of warning; if you are easily offended by the ‘f’ word, and feel it is pretty pointless in a book and has no place there, don’t bother to pick up this book as you’ll find offense on nearly every page. However, if you can come to see that the use of it may actually help the plot in some way, give this book a try.
The book itself is rather enjoyable spanning a time frame from the far distant past to the near future, and as a descriptive writer this Author excels as events and locations in the book come to life before the readers eyes. With a deft use of words, they are able to transport the reader to the era in which the plot is taking place so vividly that they will have to lay the book down occasionally to check that they really are in their own time. However, if you are not a fan of time leaping plots you may find this book somewhat confusing as it moves from one era to another quickly. The way in which the Author does this can make the structure of the book somewhat difficult to follow if the reader is new to the idea of time leaping in their reading material, but it is worth preserving with to read this intriguing book.
The Author does not just limit his descriptive writing talents to the location and events in the novel, he uses them to great effect when writing the characters encountered. For the most part these are very well developed and realistically three dimensional, which added depth to the book, unfortunately the Author was not able to sustain this level of development in all their characters to the point where some seemed to be caricatures of what they truly could have become if more time had been taken in their development.
If you are looking for a solely plot driven book then you will be disappointed in this one, as it appeared to me to be more character driven than plot driven, and as some of these characters were a lot less developed than others it actually affected the pace of the novel making it limp painfully along in some places. I’m not sure if the Authors intent was produce a character driven piece of work, or whether this happened more by chance, but it would have added immensely to the novel if there had been some plot to help in the areas where the characters were too weak to carry the book.
If you enjoy time travel books you may well enjoy this novel, but if you are looking for something deep and meaningful this is not the book for you.
Steven Nedelton is one among many new authors who is trying to get known within the wider world. This book is deemed to be historical fiction and it is primarily set in the 1940's. This era intrigues me, however, there are only some positive points that I can talk about with this book.
The first point would be that the author is very talented at descriptive writing. The way the author is able to descripe scenes along with people and events in the book. Nedelton was able to create a picture in my head while I was reading the book which is always a positive in my mind when I am reviewing a book.
Another positive point of the book was that the characters were well developed and mostly realistic. However, some of the characters weren't very realistic so it was hit and miss for the characters overall.
Unfortuantely this review has to talk about the negatives of this book and there are many. One of the main negatives I have of this book is the use of curse words. This author used many swear words including the use of the word 'F**K' which is used in the character's dialogue. In my personal opinion, swearing in books is pretty pointless since it looks unintelligent and can be offensive.
Even though this book was set in primarily the 1940's there was other eras that the book was set in. This made the book slightly harder to read. At the beginning the author sets the book thousands of years ago in what seemed to be the cavemen era. However, I could be incorrect. Then it jumps straight into the 1940's and then it does another time leap into an era I wasn't sure of. This made the structure of the book even more difficult to get used to.
I could list a few more negative points about this book but the last one I'll talk about is the severe fact I could not find any plot line in the story. This may have been due to the fact that the book was characters drove the book more than the plot did but seen as some of the characters didn't have as much detailing as the others makes me wonder if the author actually thought of a plot before writing this book at all. This is an area in which I feel uncomfortable in discussing about since I have no knowledge of what the author's ideas were with this book and if he was trying to portray them in different ways and he wasn't, as I stated earlier, plot driven.
Overall, I gave this book 2.5/5 stars. It's definitely not the best book I've read this year and I don't think it's the best book to start me off on adult fiction. Hopefully I'll find some other adult fiction more entertaining than this read.
Fear! is a fictitious investigation into the patterns of human behavior spiraling out and then recoiling in with fear. This futuristic tale is of the fight to hang on to the humanity they know while the world closes in around them. The book is fast-moving and thought-provoking. It examines how transparency comes and quickly turns to loss of power, even the power to run our own lives.
