Provides an introduction to season one of the hit television series, giving an episode-by-episode summary, memorable quotes from each episode, and interviews with the cast.
This is a very informative, well thought-out book. The writing isn't very extravagant, but if you want to read some neat behind-the-scenes features I suggest reading. I don't know how other companion guide's are like except the Supernatural companions, which is also from The CW, so I don't have much to compare it to, but it has a very good set-up and it's super easy to find things.
First there's an introduction from Alfred Gough and Miles Millar(the show creators), followed by a detailed behind-the-scenes features on each episode. It also includes separate pages for the characters and crew.
So much nostalgia - and this is really good, as far as these types of "companion" books go.
In addition to the expected episode guide and behind-the-scenes information, there are lists of the songs used in the show's soundtrack, weird worldbuilding tidbits like the names of the fictional streets the characters live on, all sorts of obscure trivia. It's neat to see references to writers from the comics show up in small ways. For instance, the bridge in the Pilot episode is apparently named "Loeb Bridge" (Jeph Loeb wrote Superman for All Seasons.) I like stuff like that.
The text is padded out with fictional newspaper articles written by "Chloe," or other characters, expanding on some of the events of the episodes - which is both really cute and totally in keeping with the tone of the show.
The pictures are fantastic, and there is a gorgeous full-colour photo gallery in the middle. There is also a reproduction of an Alex Ross painting of Clark, Lana, and Lex as portrayed by Tom Welling, Kristin Kreuk, and Michael Rosenbaum that is absolutely stunning! Apparently it was used on the cover of TV Guide in December 2001.
I'm enjoying wrapping myself up in early 00s nostalgia by rewatching Smallville and now reading these companion books.
