I want to give a "running review" since my thoughts now (on page 38) are so strong, and I suspect (and hope) they may change by the end of the book.

Right now, I'm not very impressed with the authors or the book. The first two chapters outline the background stories of each author - the circumstances which led them to agree to be part of a praying wives club. Chapter four (which I've just begun) is focusing on successes they had as a result of prayers. The overall feeling I've gotten from every single chapter is that the prayers are all very shallow/materialistic sort of things. Almost every prayer mentioned so far was something along the lines of "we prayed for _____'s husband to have a better/less stressful/easier/higher-paying job." They talk about their huge houses and their horse farms and their home businesses and their jaguar collections and their lingerie (seriously? page 33). I understand these are not bad prayers, and they're legitimate and important too, but where are the prayers focused on mental and spiritual and relationship health? The only reason I'm finishing the book (at this point) is because it's a quick read and it's received great reviews so far. But the overall impression I'm getting right now is one of the whole Joel Osteen/Prayer of Jabez movement that preaches "You want stuff? Just ask for it! God will give it to you." To me, that's not the point of praying. For my husband or anyone else.

Okay - now that I'm done, I'll say the book does get better. The last several chapters are focused on the practical aspects of starting and maintaining a prayer group. Most definitely the best part of the book was the scripture prayers in the appendix, which allow you to focus on certain topics of prayer that may be relevant to your husband. My overall opinion, however, after finishing the entire book, is that it wasn't enough helpful/unique material to write a book about. You could just as easily look at the cover and think "Why, I ought to start a praying wives club" and get the same benefit.

I finished this book so quickly. It is a very quick read. The first half of the book is a “how to” book teaching you why and how to start a praying wives club. The second half of the book is specific prayers for your marriage and husband.

I really enjoyed the specific prayers included in the book, most of them were based on scripture, which I have been trying to incorporate more into my prayers.

I have a strong interest in bringing together women and praying for our husbands and marriages, so this book helped me out a lot!

I don’t think that I will necessarily following this program to a tee, however, it was full of tons of great information. I am praying for the right time to bring a group together.

I would recommend this book to anyone interested in starting a prayer group of women praying for their marriages and husbands!

If you want to pray for your marriage this is a great book to read. Why not get some girlfriends together and pray?! This book explains, why, how, and gives all the help you need to kick-off your own group. Don't let fear of praying with others stop you. They cover everything from group commitment to confidentiality.

I loved this book and have already loaned it to someone to read so we can start a prayer group. It gave me a really good feeling just by reading it.
