A creative team of enthusiasts from Kazanlak, Bulgaria. Initially dealing with book authoring, we have expanded into many forms of traditional and modern art. We have published numerous books and have even more on the way. We have won a number of awards and distinctions but what matters most to us is that a reader who has come across a book of ours then wants to read the rest of them. We live in a small country and therefore have the advantage to keep in touch with many of our fans. What we learned from them was that people are looking for a contemporary fairytale, an adventure told in a new way, with characters from our times, whom the readers can identify with.

Let me start by saying that this is the first book of the authors, who are a group of early teenagers, and just coming up with a complete product while working as a group is a great achievement in and of itself. You guys rock!

Second, the idea behind the story is very interesting and appealing, with characters who can be likable right away.

The main issue I had with the story was its structural integrity and the overuse of dialogue to advance it. When you rely so heavily on the dialogue, often little things get overlooked and confusion as who is talking to whom and where the characters are situated, as well as action description get lost and it takes several checks for the reader to catch up with the authors' intent.

However, I enjoyed getting to know the gang and was pleased with the intricacies of the world political scene. I also thought the translation was magnificent and nothing as far as language was concerned, grated or bothered me, which is often the case with translated works. Overall, I thought there is a ton of potential and I am hoping that the young authors decide to stick together and bring this series to its intended conclusion soon. I plan on reading it for sure! 👍🙂

A new revised version of the YA novel co-authored by a dozen young adults. :)

I talked about it on the panel "Becoming a Grown-up: the Bildungsroman in Stories for Young People" at the 2020 Worldcon, citing it as an example of: 1) not focusing on the love lives of its characters but on the evolution of mutual trust and the dynamics of the group as a whole: finding your place and the people with whom you belong; 2) a must read for all parents who struggle to understand their teen children. (Should that just read "all parents"? :D) Since the teen authors have based the story on their own experiences and frustrations, the book is extremely authentic. (It's #OwnVoices, in modern parlance.)

I found this fun. Nothing Earth-shattering, but fun. One cool thing is that this was written by a collective of young people (teens and 20s) in Bulgaria. There is nothing specifically Bulgarian about the content. It follows many of the conventions of a fantasy quest story, but it also freely mashes-up fantasy staples (elves, dwarfs, magic) with futuristic inventions like jet-packs and space suits, plus steam-punkish turbo zeppelins. The things fit together very well, and while reading it you wouldn't know that multiple authors were involved.

There are a few issues with translation and editing, but not enough to spoil the experience.

This is available as an e-book for free, or a donation. If it sounds like fun to you, you should try it.

A unique story authored by a collective of Bulgarian young adults, translated into English by Kalin M. Nenov. I read it as part of the goodreads group Speculative Fiction in Translation, as it was one of our summer reads.

The Coin blends both sci-fi and fantasy elements (while leaning more heavily into fantasy tropes, I'd say) to weave a story about the formation of a group of oddballs and misfits who stumble onto a quest to, you guessed it, save the world.

It's clear the characters are at the center of this creative effort, and I'd say they were the strongest element; even less important side characters often had quirks that made them stand out. At times the pacing threw me off, and this is one of those first-in-a-trilogy books that doesn't resolve any of its story arcs in the first volume. Unfortunately, the latter two remain untranslated at the time of writing -- I do hope that changes, but the series probably needs an English language publisher before that can happen. Take notes, publishers of translated SFF, wherever you are: we want more.

This was a unique story for a couple of reasons. First it was written by a group of authors not just one person which lead to a smooth story instead of disjointed. Second it was not written by native English speakers so the writing was impressive but there were a few forgivable mistakes. The story was a quick read and was not a classic sci-fi it was actually more fantasy. I love both genres so I was able to fall into the story easily. The characters grow throughout the story which propels the story for the readers. The plot was filled with adventure which made this book a quick read. I enjoyed the book overall. As I mentioned before there were some mistakes with word flow and editing, but it didn't prevent me from finishing the book. Overall I would recommend this book to young readers who was to take a quick adventure.

This a book that deserves extra stars just for what it actually is: A book written by a collective of teenagers (the collaboration alone is impressive! I believe there were around 20 of them).

Yes, the text isn't very sophisticated, and relies heavily on dialogue, but frankly it is an awful lot better than the book I wrote as a teenager!
The teens in question are now all grown up of course, and I can't help but wonder whether any of them went on to continue writing.

One thing I liked about this, is that it is a true Sci-fi Fantasy. Those are pretty rare! This has something like an average Fantasy setting, only fast-forwarded a couple of thousand years. There is a very well-done blending of magic and science here and I love that! Elves and jetpacks? Yes please!
