This book was written as a guide for civilian and military people who did not have access to classified info or time to do the in-depth research of a Soviet watcher. For what it is, it does a very good job of what it was made to do. Now its a cool throwback to how people thought about the Cold War at its peak in the early 1980s.

The equipment index has errors but is otherwise decent given the context. The colored uniform index in the back is also a nice touch. This book has plenty of good pictures and will definitely serve a militaria collector or historian well!

Fantastic in-depth look at the Communist militaries as of 1982. Concise but with plenty of detail on history, organization, doctrine, equipment, and personnel. All well-illustrated and with a level of accuracy that mostly holds up.

I appreciated the political-level discussions of the various countries and their relationship with the Soviet Union, not something that comes up too often in general Soviet military history. A fascinating time capsule if you need a reference on the 1970's Warsaw Pact military or just have an interest in the subject.

Book is Awesome. It's like an encylopedia of the Cold War. Goes into all the facts, arms, doctrine, and politics of the Warsaw Pact.
