Keepers of the Gods #2

Master of Wrath

Rate this book
As the God of Death continues his battle for supremacy, three hearts are caught in a whirlwind of danger that will test the very limits of their strength and love.

For three millennia, Cyaan has survived a warrior’s life, taking passion as it came and revenge when it was due. Yet none of that could have prepared him for his latest challenge. For five years, he has lived with the pain of having failed his mate. A man who sacrificed his freedom for the sake of another. Cyaan will do everything within his power to bring his mate’s kidnapper to justice.

But his campaign takes an unexpected turn when he discovers he has a second mate, Loken. Son of the God of Wrath, Loken lives by the blade and has no intention of losing his heart to love. Unwilling to lose yet another mate, Cyaan convinces him to aid in the rescue of the only man who can complete them.

After escaping the ruthless clutches and desires of his captor, Jace once again finds himself held captive by not one man, but two. Both fierce warriors eager to claim him as their mate and protect him at all costs. But he has been damaged almost beyond repair. It will take every ounce of Cyaan and Loken’s loving patience to convince Jace that he is more than worthy of them.

Yet even the formidable bonds of love they form for each other might not be strong enough to withstand the determination of Mikel, son of the God of Death. He will stop at nothing to regain possession of Jace, even if it means their deaths.

Reader Advisory: This book contains references to violence, scenes of dubious content, harsh language and hot M/M/M action.

I have always been a lover of books, particularly those with the dichotomy of the strong alpha male and the weaker love of their life which they must rescue. After reading all I could find in M/F books, I decided to give M/M fiction a try and my addiction skyrocketed.

Hot, sexy men times two? No contest. Unfortunately, I was reading faster than the authors could produce. Eventually, I resorted to imagining my own stories and my mind took off from there.

I have to admit, though, I am a bit of a recluse. If not for the joy and humour my husband and four boys bring to me, I would never have ventured this far.

=_= I hate it when it dissolves into melodrama. And then all of a sudden, the was a mate-for-all sex-fest or something. Well, not exactly sex, per se, but all of a sudden it was like "I'm your mate, and he's yours, and he's yours, and that one belongs to you :D" =_=

Also, I don't really like menages because they're usually awkwardly written/worked out and for some reason, EVERY grouping in this seems to be a menage...

Son of Death is what keeps me going for Master of Wrath. The first was really good and had upped my expectations for the second. Unfortunately, it falls below my expectations.

It is still good in sense of the plot with a stronger uke ie Jace ( character ) but there's something about the flow of the story and the menage team(s) relationship that doesnt seems click to me. Maybe the overflowing of angstry deprives my satisfaction to this story.

Could have been a 4 stars but my first read gives it a 3 stars instead.

I jumped into this book with gusto after thoroughly enjoying the first one. Once again, this book had a lot going on with confusing bits at times. I think that ultimately I was looking for a little more in the relationship department – either in a continuation of time spent with the characters from the first book and/or certainly with this triad. I feel like I didn’t quite get enough – plenty of action, yes; just needed a little more lovin’!

4 Hearts

This story is part of a series and best read in order. Cyaan has been searching for five years to find his mate Jace, who is in the hands of Mikel, now he finds he has another mate Loken and together they come across their mate, now they have to convince Jace that nothing that happened to him will ever make them leave him. Jace has been through horrors for the last five years, and now he has managed to escape to warn his mate of the danger to his daughter, but he knows Mikel will never rest until he is in Mikel’s power again.

This is a great continuation in the Keepers Of The Gods series with its paranormal aspects and the BDSM D/s loving elements. Cyaan has been dealing with his loss, grief and guilt for five years since the disappearance of Jace, he is determined to find him and one night while he is hunting he finds his other mate Loken. Now both men are determined to find their missing mate and are shocked when they stumble across him one night. Jace escaped from Mikel with the sole intention of delivering a message, he has no hope of his mate still wanting him after everything that has been done to him but is surprised when he learns that he has two mates that want him. While dealing with repairing their mate Loken and Cyaan and the other Keepers must still find Mikel to stop his plans to release Death from his prison.

I enjoyed that this story was a healing story for Jace, yes some people might say that after what happened to Jace the last thing he needed was to have two dominate men wanting his submission, but for Jace that is exactly what he always wanted, and, it was handled quite well with the way that both Loken and Cyaan knew when to use kid gloves and they knew when to push for more from Jace and not just in a sexual way. The storyline continued on from Son Of Death with Mikel trying to gather Keepers to release his father Death from the prison to where he was banished, after Death tried to take over all the Gods, and Mikel has an ally who is exposed in this book.

There is quite a bit going on in the story from Loken and Cyaan trying to convince Jace that they do want and love him, to helping him deal with what happened to him, to halfling’s being kidnapped and unexpected secret allies on both sides. The story flows smoothly with the three main characters fitting together well, each of them has their own personality that shines through and they complement each other well.

I will recommend this to those who enjoy the paranormal, hot sex, hunky sexy men, danger, distress, violence and a happy ending for our three men and a great opening for the next book.

Two large all consuming warriors need their third mate to balance their relationship. Cyaan and Loken are impressive men. Both have been fierce warriors for as long as they can remember, and since they can live for hundreds of years, that has created a sense of disconnection with others and themselves. I love how they are equally balanced in almost all ways. While this may pose a problem in many relationships, Jace is what holds it all together.

This story had many positive qualities, but the one that really stands out in the forefront is the conflict with Mikel. That is truly the driving force behind this story and is also one of the reasons I labeled this story a forced seduction. Mikel spent years forcing Jace to do things he did not want to do among many other offenses. His obsession with Jace may make some readers feel uncomfortable but really adds depth to the story. Mikel is the ultimate wrong doer and through the entire story, I could not wait until justice finally prevailed.

The relationship dynamic or development was truly special. I love how as big an intimidating Cyaan and Loken may be but they seem to just melt where Jace was concerned. Some scenes left me smiling at how much they fawned over the smaller man. Even when they fumbled and made mistakes it was clear it was done out of love and concern. All three men created the perfect balance of love, tenderness and sex appeal.

The supporting cast within this story was entertaining in itself. I came to care for many of the secondary characters just as much as I cared for the main characters. Because this is a series, this is even more important to me because it creates interest in previous and future stories, which the author definitely did for this reader.

I do not even know who the main characters of the previous story were, but I do know that I cannot wait to get my hands on it.

In this second book of the series, we follow the story of Cyaan, Jace and Loken. Jace has been a prisoner of Mikel for 5 years when Cyaan meets their second mate Loken. Loken agrees to join Cyaan in the search for their missing mate. I didn't like this one quite as much as the first book but I will continue with the series.
