Fans of firefighters and fire truck will love this rollicking story from the great Richard Scarry!
Sparky, Smokey, Snozzle, and Squirty are the valiant firepigs who keep Busytown safe. But their busy days are much more than just putting out fires. They come when Hilda drops her keys in the drain, and they help Mr. Frumble with his pickle car. It's also important that they keep the firehouse neat and clean. But, of course, putting out fires may be their most important job.
Once again, Richard Scarry's trademark humor and silly picture details will enchant readers who, again and again, will want to hear the adventures of these perhaps overambitious firefighters.
RICHARD SCARRY is one of the world's best-loved children's authors EVER! In his extraordinary career, Scarry illustrated over 150 books, many of which have never been out of print. His books have sold over 100 million copies around the world, and are currently published in over twenty languages. No other illustrator has shown such a lively interest in the words and concepts of early childhood. Richard Scarry was posthumously awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Society of Illustrators in 2012.
Why yes, I am counting this toward my reading challenge because I read this at a baby shower today and words are words, even if they’re meant for 3 year olds.
Terribly written, such as the line ‘The Greenbug family was having a barbecue’. For such a short, simple book you would think someone along the path would have Ickes up on that (or one of the many other errors).
This book was a lot of fun to me. I really enjoyed the scene where the fire fighters have to help Mr. Fumble with car issues. I like how the fire fighters help the community.
Memang rezeki saya he he he.
Otto, 2yo, is clearly trying to make sense of the many shenanigans in this book and, periodically during down moments while riding in the car, will say, "That Mister Frumble!" and shake his head.
These pigs need a better union. They also need training since they started a fire themselves. Mr. Frumble also needs to be vomited it at a minimum charged for all of the repeated calls.
This book is such a fun little read. It provides a cute story about what fire fighters used to do for citizens. It will give kids confidence that fire fighters are there to help.
As a preschooler I was a big fan of Richard Scarry books. I loved how the illustrations were so full of amusement and action. (Still do.) I would ask my mother why one character would drive a pickle car. (The pencil car, cheese car, and even ketchup bottle car seemed to need no explanation.). But why the pickle car? My mother had no sure answer that satisfied my curiosity. I knew there was something more to this. And there was!!! Today (decades later) the answer presented itself in this book I read with my preschooler. Mr. Frumbles is always "in a pickle."
Mr Scarry's books are always 'busy' so if you have a child that gets overwhelmed easily then you might pick something different for them to look at or to read to them. For those that can tolerate lots of action and illustrations per page then this is a fun book. The poor firefighters start their day out to try and eat breakfast but a call comes in and they have to go to...they go and help their neighbor then they try and eat lunch and again they have to go out... neat book to help children know what firefighters do and how important they are.
An entertaining read as we watch a typical day in the life of Busytown's firefighters. As per usual with Richard Scarry most of the fun is in looking at the detailed pictures. The ridiculous pickle car, the worm wearing a shoe, and all the anthropomorphic side characters. I think everybody knows what I'm talking about and if you don't you should pick up at least one Busytown book.
Richard Scarry's creates the best stories. Great admirer of his since I was a young girl of 7 (Wow, it's been that long). Great little story about a busy day in a fire brigade. They are always there to help and they are generous with their time.
My dad was a firefighter so my family always has firefighter stuff. Plus they are just cool. This book is for kids who are a little older as the illustrations are smaller and there is a lot more happening on each page. But it is a fun book and I think my nieces will enjoy it for years.
Richard Scarryn Touhulan vapaapalokunta on Scarrylle tyypilliseen tapaan hyvin touhukas! Kiireessä ja innossa sattuu enemmän kommelluksia kuin olisi suotavaa, mutta sekös tekee lastenkirjasta hauskan luettavan.
Another fun Richard Scarry book with charming illustrations and plenty of things to talk about on every page. What's not to love? ETA: Read to L in May 2015
