From the author of Horrible Histories comes this fascinating series of true stories about topics that really interest me and I suspect most of us. Now what you don’t know about me is that sharks are amongst my favorite animals and I will watch, read and research anything to do with sharks.

Are sharks really the terrifying, man-eating monsters we associate them as or misunderstood creatures persecuted by humans? Make up your own mind with this fascinating book of eight terribly true tales of suspense, danger and courage which include the real-life Jaws and the shark that saved lives.

I actually started reading this to my best friend as we are both a sucker for riveting shark tales and we both agreed it was incredibly interesting, well researched, shocking and in some instances sad. Not only are we regaled with these interesting shark stories but also shark facts about repellents, what to do in a shark attack, shark records and superstitions and legends.

I really enjoyed this little fun, fact filled book it’s taught me a lot about famous sharks and shark attacks that I didn’t previously know, which is great considering I know an awful lot about sharks themselves.

Living in Australia, sharks are creatures you are very much aware of- especially if you live in the coastal towns and cities, which most of us do. You grow up going to the beach, fully aware that they are out there. Part fascinating, part frightening... which is what you also get from this book. There are nonfiction stories retold here, in a narrative style. I had not heard of most of them before. The illustrations are excellent and I appreciate the author’s conservationist points, especially at the end of the book.
