Many journals and articles have discussed the architecture of specific stadiums and the logistics of large events. However, most papers do not compare the evolutions that stadiums have gone through over time, and they instead display technological innovations that each stadium has and solely compare them to similar technology in other stadiums. Although there are a few papers that briefly explain the history of stadiums as a way to contextualize their findings and compare them to specific stadiums of the past, most papers do not give an in-depth analysis of stadium architecture over time. Therefore, this research paper gives a comprehensive review of both the architectural and technological aspects of stadiums throughout time. Moreover, this research paper identifies architectural challenges in building sports stadiums and the solutions that have affected stadium development throughout time.
