Levi is a vampire, villain and tragedy, a monster made rather than born. He was only a teen when another vampire went rogue and turned him.
Jared is on the receiving end of Levi's obsession. He's also in in love with his best friend, Jordan, and has been for years. Jordan feels the same—but it's too late. Jared pushes him away, believing Jordan's in danger.
Jordan is crushed until he discovers Jared's hiding something from him. Something that’s killing him. And in the meantime, Levi's growing stronger every day, drawing Jared in against his will.
The only thing standing between Levi and what he wants is Jordan. And Jordan’s not letting Jared go.
Well, this book really was a surprise to me. A very smelly friend recommended it to me, and at the start I was dubious. For a while, I could not work out where it was going, but it gathers pace and has a belter of an end that is quietly touching. So, it seems to me that it isn't really about a vampire at all, more about reaching maturity, making decisions, friendship, love and loyalty. Perhaps I am wrong, but I think it is also about realising what is important in life, other than chocolate, I mean. It is a bit like one of those sweets which at first taste non-descript, but then suddenly explode in your mouth so you go " Wow" and "Maan." So, yes!! A sweet, complex book. I shall look up the author.
I wasn’t sure about this story when I started reading it. The reviews were all over the place and averaged barely over 3. This book will never win literature awards but it was fun and sexy in my opinion! I’d probably give it 3.5 stars if that was allowed, but I enjoyed it enough to round up instead of down so 4 stars is what it gets!
I was intrigued at the beginning, but it never really went anywhere...and the ending was non existent. I kept with it because it had a few twists that were pretty interesting, but it was really a long road to nowhere, sadly.
Jared and Jordan are best buddies but since Jared has realized that he's gay he's afraid of letting Jordan in on all the aspects of his life. He's also got another complication in his life. He's become enthralled by a vampire. For some reason the vampire has agreed not to kill him provided that Jared allows him to feed as needed but it is draining in more ways than the obvious.
As Jordan learns about Jared homosexuality and realizes that he wants more than just a buddy relationship himself things go from complicated to unsustainable.
Overall this is an interesting story with the vampire playing a role different than what we typically see. However it doesn't completely work. I think that the characters needed more development outside the supernatural aspects and that we could have understood the vampire character better if we'd known more about his earlier story.
The author is certainly adept at developing her prose and the character voices felt different enough to be recognizable unlike much of what's out there. It's also nice to be able to read page after page of text without seeing blatant and obvious grammatical and editorial errors as is so common today.
This novel is interesting and it is worth the reading time. Given that it was free to read on my Kindle it was well worth MY time, but I had the feeling throughout that it had been rushed to press and that a deeper richer story was there if only more development time had been invested in the project.
Still, check it out for yourself. You could do MUCH worse.
This wasn't exactly what I was expecting, which was a typical vampire romance as the vampire was the bad guy in this story. The story focused more on the development of the relationship between the 2 lead characters and the vampire part was almost incidental. It was a good quick read.
Okay story. I very much liked the different angle this story has. It's not your typical romance story with a vampire, but the execution and writing has some holes in it. Worth reading though
A coming of age story told from the gay perspective, with a paranormal twist and a dash of suspense for good measure. Jared and Jordan have been best friends forever, and Jared has been in love with Jordan almost as long. One drunk night changes everything. Intoxicated and inhibitions impaired, Jared risks it all with a kiss, and Jordan reciprocates.
Levi is a recently turned vampire that feeds off the first person to cross his path… Jared. What develops from there is a love triangle like none I’ve ever read. Jared is in love with Jordan, but he feels the pull to Levi now that he has marked him. Levi wants to posses Jared more than anything and in his own strange way, he loves him. But now that Jordan has admitted to his feelings for Jared, he will NOT let him go easily.
I loved the depth of the main characters. Jared would do anything to protect Jordan, even giving in to Levi and giving him what he wants, his life if it will keep Jordan safe. Once Jordan admits his feelings for Jared he will stop at nothing to protect him from Levi. As hard as Jared pushes Jordan away for fear of Levi hurting him, Jordan pulls back. It was literally a tug of war of emotions.
The author took this book up one more notch, by creating a “villain” that is likeable at times. Levi didn’t ask to be turned and then left to his own accord, not wanting to be the monster he’s becoming. He even apologizes to Jared in the beginning. The bloodlust and his desire to possess Jared pushes him to a very dark place. Black keeps you guessing until the very end. Is Levi completely lost, and is he going to drag Jared down with him? Or will Jordan be able to protect the man he loves and save him. Honestly, I didn’t know if anyone would make it out “alive” by the end.
This was a well written novella with precise character development, depth and realism. I would recommend to any fans of M/M romance as well as fans of the paranormal. I only wish it were longer!
This starts out ok, and I enjoyed the way the story was being told. But, not too long into it, I had a hard time remembering who the couple was supposed to be and couldn't figure out which direction it was headed.
I felt quite bad for Jared who was chosen by Levi for whatever his reasons were. Levi had a lot of potential to be deep and mysterious, and he just fell kind of flat for me.
This story begins with Jared and a girl, then there is a hot threesome at the amusement park where Jared, his current boyfriend, Charlie, and Jared's best friend Jordan (had a hard time keeping them straight) have a little fun. This brings the possibility of an actual relationship to light beyond best friends, except that there is the big issue of Levi in the way.
Levi shows up to feed on Jared whenever he wants, and though he professes to be whatever Jared wants, it never seems to matter. Jared can't ever seem to break free of Levi. Every time Levi promises to stay away, he breaks that promise. Until the end, when, all of a sudden, he decides that he will, just like that, out of the blue. It was rather abrupt, and I was really hoping for more from this end.
I wanted to like this, but I just couldn’t see the point. Towards the end I was hoping for another kind of twist that would have included . The third person limited narrative was one of the few highlights.
I've had this book sitting in my library for a while and thought I would finally give it a go. I like the concept. It has lots of angst but I found the story hard to follow. First I kept mixing up the two main characters cause their names are similar. I thought the dialogue was choppy and hard to follow. At times it even felt pointless. I think I. Trying to make it sound like a real conversation, it came out poorly. There were many good attempts at creating drama and tension but it fell short. I wanted to like this bit couldn't.
First off, this is the first gay paranormal romance novel I've read. I got so fed up reading the straight ones, always getting moody and depressed reading about incredible straight relationships. So I decided to look for a gay version, not knowing beforehand that there already existed a pretty extensive genre. Duh. Now, The Vampire's boy may have been a bit more than I was hoping for. While the story was gripping and exciting, I wasn't expecting all the vivid sexual interaction; having been desensitized by all the PG straight para-romance to which I had become accustom. And there is indeed a LOT of vivid, explicit, sexual interaction. I may have blushed a bit. That being said, the character building and story writing in this book were incredible. I found myself drawn into the characters wants, needs, and innermost feelings. Even the villain was damaged enough you started to feel sorry for him, but not enough to want him to stick around to finish the job of course! The interaction between the main character and his friend reflected real life relationship issues and rang full of truth. This was a wonderful story with an added vampire bonus. Great job!
Ah, I loved this book. I found it entirely accidentally online while I was hunting for some cheap fluff to read. And this novel just sneaked up on me, blind-sided me with the same depth of emotion that I found in novels such as "Lost Souls" and "Let the Right One In." I would have given it five stars, but, as much as Levi is the villain, I felt so much pain for him and wanted to see him at the end of the novel. I wanted his legacy to include a more heroic - inspired deed - than simply letting Jared go. Although, I will admit, that may simply be my own prejudices towards vampires stepping in the way. It is not often these days that a vampire novel makes me cry, creates a physical, emotional response in me. As the author has stated, the market is just too over-flowing with bad vampire fiction at present. But this novel moved me. Thank you so much for renewing my faith in the existence of vampire literature.

I really liked The Vampire’s Boy for the atypical vampire, as compared to the modern treatment of vampires we usually see, the romanticized one that’s sexy. In this story, the vampire is tragic and scary. Brilliant story. I knocked off a star solely for some slow parts that made me start skimming to get through them. Overall, very decent read. The characters were easy to relate to, and the vampire was creepy, and no matter when not present, he seemed like he was. Creepy indeed.
There are some hot scenes between guys, three of them, but the love story between the main character and his best friend is sweet and brave and really made this story special, most especially because of that vampire.
I love vampire stories and this one didn't go where I thought it would. I was troubled at first but came to see how it worked out in the end. There's also a three way and I usually don't cotton to these, but it was well written. In fact the story as a whole was really well done. Really on the edge reading and I couldn't put it down. One thing, the main characters names were to close...Jared and Jason, but other than that pet peeve, a thriller that will surprise and a love story where one was not expected...at least not by me. Not the couple I would have obviously chosen, and that's what makes the story interesting and different. I was happily surprised with this story, thank you.
: Levi a young vampire is obsessed by Jared. He stalks him and takes his blood > Jared is in love with his best friend Jordan and finds out it is mutual. But can Jared get free of Levi? Will Levi hurt Jordan if he finds out about him? You must read it and see. Levi is definitely not a sparkly vampire. He is sexy but dangerous. I liked this book with its darkness. You could feel the angst in both Levi and Jared. The twists and turns were intriguing. I recommend this If you like vampires, obsession, and hot mansex
"The Vampire's Boy" jumps rights into it, dragging into its sex-filled world. With an almost non-stop stream of foreplay and so close it might count scenes (including one that had to be re-read to be sure there was no actual sex), its a juicy read. My only real complaint is the one scene I waited for NEVER happened -- instead we get a jump in time and that's a lousy way to go.
Yes, recommended -- if you're into this sort of naughty thing.
Most paranormal male/male romance is relatively predictable, usually include very sympathetic supernatural characters, and eventually reach a usually light and happy ending. This story had some darker turns, drawing on less noble/romantic (and more traditional) aspects of supernatural threats.
Not what I was expecting, but some readers who like their paranormal aspects to be a bit more traditionally dark and threatening may enjoy this more than I did.
Not sure how to feel about this book. Interesting take on coming of age and coming out, but the vampire seemed very much a plot point used to change the other characters without becoming a fully developed one himself. I was also a little bugged by the preachy author's notes at the end that basically told me how I should understand the story. Not cool. Still not a terrible read!
I didn't know how to feel about this one. There were moments when I was excited or happy, other moments when I was sad, and I very was very confused most of the time. It was the beginning, the middle and the end were different stories. I was just very confused most the time. I can say one thing, Jordan is defy my favorite character.
I found the story very hard to follow. I don't understand how sex could be so enjoyable with someone so cold either(Vampire). A lot of things didn't pull together in the plot and I think it would have been a much better story if the focus stayed on the MC and the Vampire. I also felt all the sex overpowered what story there was.
This was such a waste of time, I was not engaged at all with the story. I found myself skipping through most of it in the hopes it would sommehow get better but of course it didn't (why I even bothered I just can't explain) Ultimatly as you can tell from all this ranting my reaction at the end was that this was sucky bad so no I wouldn't recomend wasting your time with this story.
I liked that Levi the vampire was the bad guy, and I loved the whole name thing, taking on a biblical name to remind god that they were still his creation, although cursed.
Otherwise it changed pov too much for my liking, sometimes several times in a few sentences!
I think this was a very cool vampire story, i like the fact that the vampire was the villain. The writing was really good and quite different (in a good way) the story could have been longer, but it was a good read.
This wasn't bad. At first I thought it was your typical vampire meets boy story, but it turned out a really fascinating and deep story, about near death, psychological problems and a love that can overcome it. Nice development!
This story was okay. I was totally rooting for Jordan to win Jared. I did love that Jordan got himself committed just to be with Jared and make sure he was okay.
