Twilite: A Parody

Rate this book
This parody skewers the best-selling novel about the sparkly undead. Whether you're a "Twilight" lover or hater*, you'll laugh out loud. The scribd preview generated over 50,000 hits, a 5-star rating and rave reviews including:
"GOLD!"
"I love Twilight. But I swear I think I almost love this even more."
"This was hilarious!"
"boi i luv this book!! amazing"

Whether you're a "Twilight" lover or hater, you will enjoy the non-stop humor and subtle commentary on that best-seller's view of the world. (If you haven't read "Twilight," you'll just say, "Hunh?" If you've seen the movie, but haven't read the book, we're not sure what you'll think...let us know!)

People ask whether it's worth reading all 498 pages of "Twilight" just to truly appreciate "TwiLITE A Parody." That's a tough question. "Twilight" is a page-turner, but you'll never get those hours back. However, if you really, really love to snicker, it's worth it.

Do not confuse this parody with fan fiction. This is a true parody. It follows Stephenie's book non-event by non-event, exposing the ridiculous every step of the way. Its stars are Edward Sullen and Bella Swoon, and boy is she clumsy.

Because author, Sue Knott, believes Twilight's endless descriptive passages of vampire hunkieness could not possibly be rendered more absurd, only the "meat" of the original novel is mocked. That makes this parody blessedly shorter than the lengthy vampire tome it skewers...but you'll wish there were more!

This is the perfect gift for friends who don't understand why you don't like Twilight.
Read it. Laugh. And come back to share your review.

*Disclaimer: haters find it funnier than fans.

About the author

Sue Knott

Sue Knott has been writing professionally for more years than she cares to admit. She enjoys writing parodies as they make her laugh while she's writing. However, she also enjoys writing fiction, especially romance and stories that imagine the future.

Sue is the doting mother of a teen son and the long-suffering wife of an equally long-suffering (but much crankier) husband. She has also been "mom" to a bunny (now deceased) and an extremely energetic Siberian Husky who jumps on her keyboard when she's busy writing.

She has had a varied and successful career as an advertising copywriter. She has lived in Pittsburgh, PA; NYC; LaCrosse, WI; Scranton, PA; and currently makes her home in upstate NY. Occasionally she tries her hand at stand-up comedy, though she is in complete and total terror whenever she takes the stage.

Sue is an avid gardener and wishes she had time to pursue craft projects or even just to clean her house. Sue has a sweet tooth. She wears a size 9 shoe. She collects art glass. She recycles. She sewed her own wedding gown (big mistake). She revels in the outdoors and longs to be on the beach. She prattles on at the keyboard. She is a safety nutcase. And she loves to Zumba.

This book was okay. Alot of the time it was really funny, but it didn't have enough diologe and Bella was a little annoying. It was far to short, it only took me a couple of hours to finsh it, but like I said before could be really funny.

This my first Goodreads Giveaway Win by the way. Looks like we're off to a good start self...

First of all, the obvious: look at that book cover, just look at it! That enough sent me in a fit of giggles when I first saw it.
Second of all, the other obvious: short. Short, but sweet.
I red it under an hour (I know that because the TV was on and other members of the household were watching an hour long show). At first I didn't appreciate the shortness at all. But I realized that Ms. Knott had simply cut the flowery language, the long descriptions and the sparkle from the original, leaving it standing on its two wobbly little legs. And that was hilarious.
To be honest, when I first red the original I was Swoon away (see what I did there?): aw man, this must be the best story eva! Must construct a shrine in my bedroom! But then I graduated high school, became cynical and discovered a bigger database in my local public library.

Ms. Knott's book is funny not just because it's a parody, but the technique she uses and the imagery is pretty well executed. She even breaks the fourth wall once in a while just to get the point across, shamelessly references Ms. Meyer's books and the movies like it's nobody's business.

My favorite part (or rather character) in the whole bunch? Je'ache.
Goodness gracious the puppy-kicking that goes on in there is amazing. I didn't even feel bad about it.

It might be seen as mean by some readers. Heck, I even felt guilty when I first received it. But it's all good fun. I believe that fans of the original will like it if they give it a chance.

I look forward to discovering Ms. Knott's other books. This one was a nice read.
Seriously though: WHY SO SHORT? CAN YOU TELL THAT THIS IS IS REALLY BUGGING ME?

Compared to all the other parodies of Twilight, I find this one to be the most entertaining.

It's hilarious and I personally think that in many ways, this book is better than the original. It explores the main points of Twilight in a humorous manner and is a bit more lively than the actual story.

I won this from First Reads for an honest review.

Honestly, I am not a huge fan of Twilight by Stephenie Meyer, so reading a parody on it was awesome and a nice change to my reading norms. It’s not that I strongly dislike Twilight, but it is not something I generally leap at the chance to buy or read. This book is another thing I would not charge to the book store to buy, but it is one I am glad to have read. It is an interesting and rather hilarious story for me, considering it is fairly unusual for me to read parodies. But it sounded unique, and I thank First Reads for allowing me to read and review this piece.

Despite the fact that Twilite: A Parody is not the lengthiest story (at around one hundred and twenty pages), it is a funny and insightful book, making the original novel by Stephenie Meyer have a new insight on the fellas such as I whose hearts are not won by the vampire/werewolf/human love triangle. This being said, I could chuckle numerous times throughout this parody, clearly knowing before I started that I would not be offended whatsoever, but humored.

Cover: Simple, it plays off of the cover of Twilight with a funny twist.

Setting: Phoenix.

Characters: The author makes fun of the characters, changing their names to sound similar to the characters created by Stephenie Meyer but making them more amusing to the reader, and manages to make the reader laugh at their obliviousness and lack of integrity throughout this well-told parody.

Storyline: A girl moves to a small town, and thus begins the blossoming of a romance and adventure nobody in the story expected would ever happen. Unique, I know. Call me sarcastic.

Writing: I enjoyed reading the hilarious writing style as I strolled through this quick read.

Surprises: Predictable but still entertaining, this is a story that both makes fun of and brings more insight onto the original story it plays off of.

Overall: 3 stars. This is very different from anything I have ever read before, which is something that is easy for me to state because I read very few parodies, and it is a read that may annoy some readers from time-to-time. Although extremely short in size and with bigger print, this book has a longer feel to it (probably because of all the exclamation points Bella uses and incorrect grammar I could pick out quickly).

Recommended: I would recommend this to anyone who loves parodies, doesn’t prefer Twilight, and will push the offensiveness of the fans aside for an enlightening read.

I won a copy from First Reads and here is my review:

I’m a huge Twilight fan, mainly because I was 16th when I first read the saga and it was cool back then, and as a fan I hate when people make fun of the books when they haven’t even read the thing! But hell do I enjoy making fun of it myself, hell yeah!

This book is perfect for fans and non-fans of the saga. Now ya’ll who didn’t read the books and like to make fun of it will actually have better arguments other than “Vampires don’t sparkle” (Which is a fact of course). For those who hate talking about it, after reading this book you should just tell (When mentioning Twilight) your GF or friends that you read Twilite a Parody and they will just back off and shut up about it. And for us, fans, we’ll have a nice laugh about it.

But srsly this book is gold and very amazing, a very fun read. I was (Quote from the author when signing my copy) “L.O.L”-ing from the first page to the last. Once you start the first page you won’t put it down till you finish the whole thing.

A big thank you to the author for my giving me the opportunity to read this amazing book! I have so much fun reading it.

PS: I know I'm an awful reviewer!

I won a copy of this book from first reads through Goodreads giveaways. Because I had previously read and enjoyed the Twilight Saga I wasnt really sure how this book would go, Although it was a rather short book (only took an hour to read) I thought it was a great companion to go with the first book of the Twilight saga. It was very funny, the name changes of the characters were really great I found it very funny, the name changes were great. Only thing I would recommend is in future reprints of this book I think pages numbers would be a good addition. Overall this was a fantastic book and would recommend to anyone who has read the Twilight saga whether they are fans or not. I would happily read more of Sue's writing. :)

I like the size of the book. I like that the book is no where near as long as the book this book is making fun on. The story points out a lot of the same things I had a problem with in the first book of the Twilight series. I do like the book and think it is funny and I think the book is what I would expect a lampoon type book to be. I like the Twilight series, but did see things that I don't think were thought out well or explained well. I like that Twilite a Parody talks about the same things I remember telling my friend Aaron who loves the Twilight series about. I won a free copy on Goodreads through Goodreads First Reads so I did not buy the book.

I found this story to be both insightful and humorous. Unlike the other Twilight parodies I have read or watched I did not find this one offensive. It was more like watching my daughter's favorite teenage soap operas, amusing in small amounts. The chapters are the perfect length for a quick burst of laughter as needed and reading it that way made the enjoyment last much longer.

A funny twist on "Twilight" including main characters Bella Swoon and Edward Sullen. It really pokes fun at the contradictions in the "Twilight" book. I loved the whole Twilight series but it was also fun to laugh along at it with "Twilite" as Bella is obsessed with a murderous stalker, Edward and how she is really OK with being killed by a guy she barely knows.

I received a copy of this book for free through Goodreads First Reads.

Twilight Hater (like me) and Twihards will really like this book. Ive read the Twilight series and reading a good parody that mimics Bella's annoying personality (in a very funny way) is highly amusing.

Yes, it made me laugh really hard at times. I read the first Twilight book. Started the second and couldn't get through it. This parody was very funny. I enjoyed it even though I was thinking I wouldn't.

I was fortunate to win this book through Goodreads Firstreads.

This book was absolutely excellent. I recommend it to all, regardless of how they feel about the Twilight series. Unfortuneatly it was a little short.

I happily won this book in one of the give-a-ways. I was pleasantly surprised to find myself giggling most of the way through it. I think the only downside is that it was too short!

I won this in a Goodreads giveaway. I honestly couldn't finish this book, regardless of it's short length. This is a parody of the popular Twilight series, of which I am a fan of. I feel like the timing of this book contributed to my poor rating: Twilight parodies have been done time and time again and they're just not funny anymore. I felt like I was reading a dragged out Facebook status written by a boring, self-centered teenager. While I know the point of the book is to mock Bella, and while she definitely possessed these qualities, at least her narration in Twilight was somewhat entertaining and readable.

I understand this was a parody and could only be so long, but I believe Sue Knott could've added some more depth to her work.
