A group of total strangers, all looking to make dramatic lifestyle changes, visit an open house in hopes they are about to find their dream home. They don’t know why the old house in the little town of Scarecrow, Illinois is so attractive to them. They quickly determine the house is no home, but find they cannot leave. The mixed group must dig into their pasts and put their differences aside to face the evil within the house. They must make harrowing decisions and heartbreaking sacrifices in order to save themselves and the ones they love from an uncertain but terrible fate. One little girl, Rena Romero, seems to be at the center of it all. Does she hold the key to their escape? Or is it permanently hidden away by Rena’s mysterious, invisible friend Mister Secrets?
Solid three star audiobook, read by the author. Makes a world of difference having someone reading the material that knows where and when to pause for a beat, well done. For a locked door, no escape, horror yarn, the story progression was fairly logical and the mix of characters and personalities was eclectic enough to always maintain interest.
Great book if you’re looking for something scary! Love the characters and their interactions. If you haven’t already, check out the author’s podcast - The Warning Woods!
