Read for The Cool Readings Book Club

A solid 3 stars from me.

I will admit that initially I was a little unenthusiastic about
reading a novel by a local author - usually they only write historical fiction or non-fiction, which I'm not a big fan of - read: not a fan at all actually, that was just me putting it mildly.

However, I must say that this piece of fiction was what I usually expect from an international author, not gonna lie. I was hugely proven wrong and I will admit that I thoroughly enjoyed the book and at many points did a little 'happy dance' in my head to finally see that a local author can write just as exciting and engaging books as the other guy.

He took risks, he used language that may have shocked the irregular reader, but I certainly appreciated it. As an avid reader and reviewer, I applauded his forward and progressive way of thinking.

And to end it all off, this was written by a male writer.

I find is so unbelievably hard to find male authors that can really grab my attention and keep it.

Sean Russell did this all.

Captivating from the very beginning, dramatic, and so entertaining!

Looking forward to the sequel.

Barbadian writers are coming fiercely into their own, from a place that packs staggering knowledge, motion and discovery into a compact package. Sean Russell is one writer I will read again. Forget culture and race--he writes about people walking through life's fires and conflicts which can apply to anyone, anywhere. Want to see what else he puts out.

I am ashamed to say that I was hesitant to read a book written by a local author thinking it would have been a waste of time.I am happy to report that I was DEAD wrong. This book was a page turner from start to finish with the added plus of being able to relate to the characters and places which were Barbadian/Caribbean. GREAT JOB Sean! Looking forward to the sequel!

A fast paced story of betrayal under the warm Barbados sun. It was a quick read with enough twists to keep the pages turning. Thank you Sean and Goodreads for giving me the chance to read this exciting tropical adventure.

Love the story ,it was gripping. Can't wait for the sequel. On another note, there were some grammatical errors, so the editor should be careful next time.

I read "Guilty" within 4-5 hours after receiving a copy. I must say that it was definitely a "page turner"; I was totally engrossed in this novel written by Sean Russell.

In today's society we often see or hear of "professionals" who are on an upward trajectory; and often find themselves in the face of adversity. Russell could not have enunciated this anymore than he did, with his main character "Phil Ferguson", a successful attorney whose life became the target of his arch nemesis "Jimmy Cadogan" an influential yet conniving attorney who stopped at nothing to ensure that Phil's life was completely ruined - as a result his marriage, his career/legal practice and the lives' of his extended family suffered tremendously.

Notwithstanding the trials, the concepts of "good prevailing over evil" and "love conquers all" were displayed.

I saw diversity, as the author embraced the culture of Phil's homeland (Barbados). He touched on the life of a young girl who grew up in an impoverished community in the South American Country - (Guyana). Amanda was also faced with ghastly experiences; as a result she relocated to Barbados which became her new home. Despite the challenges she faced, she managed to always find a way to rise above the odds.

Sean, you did a brilliant job with this being your first novel; you crafted an alluring plot that encompassed betrayal, love, greed and revenge. I personally will be looking forward to your future publications and hopefully a sequel. I have no reservations with recommending this book to my family, friends, colleagues and associates.

Definitely a page turner. I heard about this book a long time ago, but I was not compelled to read it. But after encouragement by the author, I am now anxious to read about the exploits of Jimmy Cadogan, in the sequel to Guilty. The writing was good and I found myself trying to figure out exactly where in Barbados the writer was describing. One Point to note though, was the few grammatical errors, so the author and publicist should pay closer attention to this in the future.

When you read a new authors debut novel you are hoping you will not be disappointed and that the new author will enthrall you with his/her plots and characters. Sean Russell, did just that the characters and sub characters jumped off the pages as I turned to see what next. The ending left me speechless. Sean Russell is a fiction to be on the look out for.
